You are invited to attend the first annual Global Health Connections conference! This conference will be held on the Auraria campus in downtown Denver on Saturday, September 25th.

Global health has become an impassioned pursuit for many in the last decade. On a daily basis there seems to be another story or two in the media about health-related humanitarian efforts around the world. Colorado’s citizens have clearly been a major force in this development. Today, there are hundreds of Coloradans working on their own, through their schools, their places of worship, and other organizations to make a positive difference in the world.

With over 4 billion people living with less than $2 a day, the key objective of global health remains to increase care to disadvantaged populations. Although there is much value to be gained from the development of new tools and clinical care regimens, such a “vertical approach” to global health works best in combination with more horizontal approaches to community health and sustainable development. As such, our conference takes a “diagonal approach” to global health and serves as a complement to CU Denver’s mid-October Global Health Symposium and its focus on HIV/AIDS.

The Global Health Connections conference will have four break-out session tracks: global health service projects led by Coloradans, local university activism, in-depth discussions on sustainability, and “Colorado in Haiti.” We are especially excited about the special Haiti-track. Numerous key health and development leaders in Haiti will be at the conference to discuss current ideas on how to move things forward in Haiti, and they will be joined by Coloradans involved in these very needed pursuits. Please see the attached preliminary conference schedule for topics and speakers.

When you put it all together, we think our conference has something for everyone, and we hope you will be able to attend!
