From Bangkok:

Dear all, at a fascinating meeting of HIV/AIDS and Tb treatment activists in Bangkok.

Just gave talk on chronic diseases and policy processes/ COI / tobacco/ UN HLM to 40 nodal AIDS activists (MSF, HAI, HIV + networks globally, Health GAP, Oxfam etc...).

The UN special rapporteur on the right to health (anand grover in audience), responsible for adjudicating human rights abuses was in the audience. Working closely with Gregg Gonsalvez of ITPC, leader of the world's largest network of HIV+ individuals. Some terrific colleagues from south africa, egypt, ukraine, india, china uganda here.

Is fantastic, all scheming together. In light of global fund round 11/12 cancellations and newer threats of chronic diseases and poor access to essential medicines across the board, people are keen to discuss how to work together. particularly for long-term adherence and so on. HIV community in particular is keen to partner/unify with the NCD movement for long-term. send thoughts or ping me if you have considerations.

I'd like to discuss this in real-time with all of you via Skype and see whether there are some unusual, high-impact student opportunities in access to health care that we can explore together. Would people be free in the next 2-3 weeks for such a call?

There is great worry about the global fund, PEPFAR and so on, but in crisis there is also opportunity (the chinese character for crisis incorporate both the characters for danger & opportunity, does it not?)

time for young people to step up,

spk
