Hi all, a quick query --
Send me a note if someone is interested in working Doctors Without Borders or other civil society players globally. Also if you are interested in internships at the World Health Organization or regional offices (e.g. PAHO, SEARO, EMRO, etc...) send me a note. Have a commitment from some WHO folks for hosting bright, committed students with some options for financing.
At the WHO last year, out of the 300 interns (who helped shape policy), zero (zero!) were from low and middle income countries. Students must pay for their internship and, naturally, the cost of Geneva-life is way above the payscale of students (including many in high-income countries.).
We have raised this inequity in leadership development with Director General Margaret Chan, the WHO internship leads and the head of the WHO Essential Medicines program. They are keen to help align the opportunities for global public health policy change and helping to fundraise to help pay for internships/cost of living.
Send me a note if any of this is of personal interest to you and we can work offline.
