Much to my chagrin, I have heard that there is a new smaller nuclear
plant being "sold" to folks looking for more power in their own
backyard, so to speak. This is alarming from the standpoint of
terrorist threat or failure to contain, since (1) there is no way we
can possibly guard every single one of these things adequately and (2)
there is no likely way to create a fail-safe mechanism, and mechanical
and human systems to fail.

And yes, in the short run, coal is very significantly dirtier than
nuclear, but neither is as clean as solar, wind, or potentially tidal
and wave/current power.

I see you have expressed some of your fears here. Would it be too much to
ask you to gather and post some basic facts like who, what, where, when, and
why so we can form a better opinion of whether your fears are grounded in
fact or fantasy?

Thanks,

Quite by accident I made this happy discovery today - it would be a good
place to start:

Fight fear with knowledge.

I see no cause for alarm and no ground in Wooj's fears, since (1) every
single one of these things is guarded adequately and (2) there are fail-safe
mechanisms already in place. However, it is true that some new smaller
nuclear plants are likely to be produced in the not too distant future:
