For those who enjoy watching sausage being made, Bjorn Lomborg offers his opinion of special-interests in the climate policy arena http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124286145192740987.html

Lomborg's such a concern troll. He shows his hand by citing the BS "Spanish study" by a right-wing libertarian that is pure junk science, and making the silly Enron argument.

Here's some of my analyses of the corporate influence:

I wonder how strongly environmentalists will fight to defeat the Waxman-Markey climate bill?

Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Public Citizen and TheCLEAN.org coalition are calling for politicians to dump the bill and start over.  “Despite the best efforts of Chairman Waxman, this bill has been seriously undermined by the lobbying of industries more concerned with profits than the plight of our planet,” Greenpeace USA Executive Director Phil Radford said in a statement. http://www.reuters.com/article/gwmEnergy/idUS412491869120090516

I think most environmentalists are trying to figure out how to improve the bill. This is the vehicle Obama has chosen. A defeat of Waxman-Markey will be seen as a crushing political defeat for Obama, which will make Democratic politicians profoundly unwilling to tackle climate legislation.

I think that's probably true. What a pity how very little sense that makes in the real world.

So we will enjoy the unedifying spectacle of various "green" groups
fighting tooth and nail to to support something that (from the limited
attention I've given it) seems to be basically hopeless. How delightful.

It's been like that as long as I can remember, which goes back to the
mid-1950s.
The alternative has always been to do nothing.
