This event has been growing by leaps and bounds - even since our email just last week. Interest from the public, media and government has been enormous.

Here are a couple of local stories recently published with a south Florida focus. South Florida Wildlands Assoc. is helping to organize the Hands event on Ft. Lauderdale Beach - Las Olas Blvd. and A1A - as well as keeping the focus on the damage being inflicted on wildlife and wildlife habitat throughout our region. The answer to the key question in the debate over offshore oil - Is it worth it? - is being answered more and more with a resounding NO.

Hands events are now scheduled in 820 locations - 730 in the U.S. in 509 U.S. cities. All 50 states are represented in addition to Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Internationally, Hands Across the Sand will take place in 33 countries. For those in south Florida looking for a place to cool off, there's even an event in Greenland. As many locations have recently been added, check out the main website to find one near you.

Tomorrow can be a game changer. Please do your best to come out with your friends, family and community. Here's a webcam of the Ft. Lauderdale Beach location shot from the roof of the (sought of) famous Tommy's Elbo Room (yep - the bar from the 60's spring break movie Where the Boys Are is still there). It's empty now - let's fill the beach tomorrow with something other than oil.
