Nairobi’s solid waste problem takes place throughout the city as the urban sprawl continues to negatively impact its growing population (Thomas et al, 2007). The rapid urban development combined with poor city planning of Nairobi in the late 20th century led to the inability of its infrastructure to support the quantity of waste created. This rise in pollution in air, water, and soils has led to a negative impact on human health and a decrease in the standard of living. Since there is no effective solid waste management program in place, the ecological balance of the city will only continue to worsen with time because of the harmful dioxins that are created when the trash is burned.
Thank you Ashley,
