Dear Sir, Dear Madam,

I am a researcher/student in the field of water resources, land and climate change. I am looking for gridded soil texture data and as per the ISRIC website, there is soil texture data of upto 2 m available at 1 km and 250 m resolution. I have browsed your website but what i see is only other soil property data on the ftp sites.

If possible, I would really appreciate a link to where I can download the data in Tiff format and any further directions that there may be.

Thank you and best regards

Pauline

Pauline,

We have mapped the USDA texture classes (TEXMHT; see legend at:
ftp://ftp.soilgrids.org/legends/TEXMHT.sld) and texture fractions (SND =
SAND, SLT = SILT and CLY = CLAY). Are you looking for texture classes
(http://gsif.isric.org/doku.php/wiki:soil_data#converting_texture-by-hand_classes_to_fractions)
or texture fractions?

Detailed description of the layers on the ftp.soilgrids.org/data/recent/
you can find at:

Hello Mr. Hengl,

I am looking for soil texture classes but additional information on texture fractions would also be great. Kindly confirm if the texture classes are upto to 2 m depth

As you can see from the documentation, texture classes are mapped at 7
standard depths 0, 5, 15, 30, 60, 100, 200 cm (sl1-7). To generate mean
texture class you can either use a weighted dominant class or aggregate
clay, silt and sand and then reclassify them using:
https://github.com/ISRICWorldSoil/SoilGrids250m/blob/master/grids/models/TEXclass_SoilGrids.R
