Forgot to mention that the actual color legend with numbers per class you can also access from:

Hello Tom,...

To follow up on this question about a legend for the TAXNWRB soil classes:  More specifically, is there a table the relates the values in the GeoTiff to the soil classes (and sub-classes).  Or are the classes in the legend you link in your reply, which doesn't have numerical values which correspond to the GeoTiff, are these classes somehow in numerical order ?

Your help to use the SoilGrids much appreciated, as are the SoilGrids themselves.

Best regards...  Robert

Hi Robert,

The legends for all SoilGrids layers are always in the folder:

ftp://ftp.soilgrids.org/legends/

For WRB classes hence use:

ftp://ftp.soilgrids.org/legends/TAXNWRB.qml

To read a XML file to R consider using xmlToList function
(http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2067098/how-to-transform-xml-data-into-a-data-frame).

I am sorry if this is not visible from the FTP structure (we need to
improve). Let me know if I can still help.

One note… I wasn’t able to access the data files just now,,… i.e. in directory /recent…. doesn’t show up in my ftp. Might check this….

Cheers.. Robert

Hello Mr Hengl,

I'm working on a project to simulate biomass production of some crops at regional scale in South Brazil and would like to download GeoTiffs by R. In your example,
the link below was shown to get the TIF files, but seems like the link is broken and R failed to connect.
sg.ftp <- "ftp://ftp.soilgrids.org/data/recent/"

Can you please clarify.

Thanks
