Assalamu Alaykum
I am writing to you on behalf of the trustees of a new mosque/centre
in Palmers Green/Enfield in North London:
PALMERS GREEN MOSQUE/MUSLIM COMMUNITY AND EDUCATION CENTRE(MCEC)
We would like to seek your advice regarding the use of our mosque/
centre by Shia.
We trustees are ,walhamdulillah, all Sunni and follow the Qur'an and
Sunnah in our Islamic activities and as stated in our constitution.
We think there is a very small number of Shia who pray in our mosque
on Friday prayer.
We had some requests before by Shia who used our mosque following a
death !
They said they will do KHUTM AL QUR'AN,but instead they brought a big
Shia Imam who gave a long talk in the persian language to about 100
Shias who sat in the back of our mosque?
There was no KHUTM AL QUR'AN?
Most of them came from outside our area.
Obviously we did not understand a word from the talk ..and we were not
sure if the talk did contain some ideas which can not be accepted by
the Sunni Muslims in the world!
They also put candles inside the mosque which was strange to us!
We all are aware that there are some fundamental differences in
AQEEDAH ,beliefs and practices between Sunnah and Shia.
And it looks that they will be requesting again to use our mosque/
centre for many other functions?
We do not feel relaxed and happy or sure about offering our
facilities again to them?
We like your advice on this important matter:
First:Is it okay and safe to allow Shia to give TALKS and do
different activities in our mosque/centre?
PLEASE LET US KNOW YOUR VIEW.
Second ,we will appreciate if you tell us clearly the main differences
between Sunnis and Shias
and what are their main beliefs and practices/in brief, which are
not in the Qur'an and Sunnah
and are not accepted by the Sunnis majority in the world?
We appreciate your good advice, soon, on this matter.
May ALLAH reward you and guide us all to the STRAIGHT PATH..ameen
Thank you
Wassalam Alaykum
