10:09:27 From chris to Everyone:
angela are you sure the knob is not just stuck in the off position and could be turned using judicious force?
10:14:32 From chris to Everyone:
we don't need no steenking wire colors
10:14:46 From Kirstin to Everyone:
        hehehe
10:15:19 From Alvin - Brampton, ON to Everyone:
@Jo, part of the wire would be ribbed, traditionally neutral
10:15:31 From Alvin - Brampton, ON to Everyone:
        I like that enthusiasm @Chris :)
10:16:26 From chris to Everyone:
hey Alvin good to C U,happy new year & you are right, we should observe the neutral wire

        Vintage!

I have a very similar model; very durable

@Pat you may want to get some screwdrivers ready, we'll probably be delving into there
10:18:59 From Natalie Haid -- Brampton Library Events to Everyone:
Just don't make things like they use to!
10:19:54 From chris to Everyone:
right you are Erin, vintage! and when we get into breakout room we should check for a shorted winding in the motor. sometimes they continue to run & overheat with a partially shorted winding. I am not convinced this is mechanical
10:22:54 From Erin (she/her) - Brampton Library to Everyone:
        Why are printers so tricky?
10:23:02 From Kirstin to Everyone:
        indeed!
10:24:03 From chris to Everyone:
lately printers have developed a reputation for falsely telling you that you are out of ink or need new toner, just to sell you new toner or new cartridges from mfr.
10:24:12 From Tak to Everyone:
        aftermarket ink?
10:24:17 From chris to Everyone:
        hmmmmmm
10:25:03 From Erin (she/her) - Brampton Library to Everyone:

10:26:04 From chris to Everyone:
printer - have you tried a different outlet
10:26:18 From Alvin - Brampton, ON to Everyone:
Could be a blown fuse @Jeanne - laser printers have a large draw when they start/warm-up for a print
10:27:01 From Alvin - Brampton, ON to Everyone:
For @Lori and @Jeanne, please share your printer models for the rest of the fixers here.
10:27:47 From Erin (she/her) - Brampton Library to Everyone:

10:30:45 From chris to Everyone:
the sparking tells you the high-volt circuit is working. that suggests it is indeed a magnetron issue and it is not possible to service without taking it down. this is usually a 2 person job. TWO persons at minimum.   Peter is RIGHT hi voltage is quite dangerous
10:31:05 From Jessika, Repair Cafe Lund/Malmö to Everyone:
yep,we are very careful with microwaves :)
10:31:13 From Kirstin to Everyone:
        100%
10:31:18 From chris to Everyone:
magnetron cost varies from 30 $US to infinity
10:32:09 From chris to Everyone:
there may possibly be a short in the capacitor
10:32:14 From Kirstin to Everyone:
Even disconnected and not plugged in, microwaves can be dangerous
10:32:45 From Mark Stangl to Everyone:
        www.makeuseof.com/tag/safely-take-apart-microwave
10:32:47 From Alvin - Brampton, ON to Everyone:
Agreed with Kirstin - this isn't a project for just Oleanne, a 2nd hand would b helpful if we're just to remove it from the wall
10:33:15 From Jeanne Vigeant to Everyone:
I had no idea microwaves were so dangerous, good to know.  I have actually opened one up before,  Guess I won't do that anymore!!
10:33:28 From Kirstin to Everyone:
        Safety
        Warning03.png
It could be EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to operate a microwave oven with the cover off, much more dangerous even than working on raw mains electricity. Even after switching off, the capacitor may hold sufficient charge for an extended period to give you a DANGEROUS, possibly LETHAL electric shock. You should NEVER remove the main cover unless you have a complete understanding of the risks.
10:33:44 From Erin (she/her) - Brampton Library to Everyone:
Jennifer from USA-CA-Oakland: Electric tea kettle - OXO Brew adjustable temp pour over kettle Oxo 8717100 Lights up but doesn’t heat up. The bottom connector element got bent, but still worked. But when my husband tried to straighten it, it stopped working. Moving the bottom connector with pliers. That broke it.
10:34:55 From chris to Everyone:
and this microwave is going to be HEAVY
10:35:08 From Alvin - Brampton, ON to Everyone:
We need more broken multimeter fixits!
10:35:11 From Calvin Holmes San Leandro CA USA to Everyone:
As long as you are aware of the risks, unplug it, and discharge the capacitor, microwaves aren’t particularly dangerous. But if you fail to unplug it, it is incredibly lethal. Likewise, if the discharge resistor built into the capacitor fails, and you don’t discharge it, it’s dangerous.
10:35:50 From Wayne Seltzer Boulder-U-Fix-It Clinic, Colorado USA to Everyone:
        A "posh" multi-meter. That's a new phrase for me. :-)
10:35:58 From Kirstin to Everyone:

10:36:36 From Erin (she/her) - Brampton Library to Everyone:
Sandeep from CAN-ON-Brampton: Bathroom Shower Pipe The pipes make a lot of noise when the water is running  I am not sure where to start
10:36:57 From chris to Everyone:
we need to hear the sound in the breakout room
10:38:46 From Alvin - Brampton, ON to Everyone:
I doubt it's random when it happens, there needs to be some pattern - perhaps other water draw in the household affecting pressure to this shower?
10:38:48 From Sandeep - Brampton to Everyone:
        Clean the COR?
10:38:51 From Sandeep - Brampton to Everyone:
        what is a COR?
10:39:07 From Bryan McAlley Sussex UK to Everyone:
OK - here goes. When folks from England  travelled  on  sea going liners in the 19th century, if they could afford it they specified a cabin on the Port side of the ship going out and on the Starboard side coming back, so they always got the sun. That was shortened to Port Out and Starboard Home or POSH. Bet you’re sorry you asked!!
10:39:35 From Alvin - Brampton, ON to Everyone:
Do get an upload @Sandeep, would appreciate it!
10:40:28 From Wayne Seltzer Boulder-U-Fix-It Clinic, Colorado USA to Everyone:
