=======================
Participants-570 2021-05-15 Virtual Fixit Clinic Brampton CAN

RETURNING:
Ann from USA-CA-Santa Rosa: Ann is returning with her KitchenAid mixer from last Zoom Fixit Clinic: KitchenAid B1123080 i got the parts necessary to fix it, i just need instruction on how next to proceed.
Initial Presentation: (started recording too late)

Nicole from USA-CA-Berkeley: Nicole (UC Berkeley Host of 2020-09-10 Zoom Fixit Clinic) is showing a KitchenAid Mixer KitchenAid Professional, 6-quart bowl, 10-speed 2011 or earlier It occasionally turns, but as soon as there is any resistance (such as dough in the mixer) it stops being able to turn. Also there's a misalignment where the mixing tool grinds against the bowl.
Initial Presentation: https://youtu.be/C26ZXZWqf9w?t=10

Dorothy from USA-CA-Albany: Dorothy (sewing machine from 2020-11-14 Zoom Fixit Clinic) is back with a Room heater Lasko 755320 Won't work at all. Not even the light that shows it's plugged in. Found "reset" instructions, which don't have any effect.

Nancy from CAN-ON-Brampton: Nancy (Sewing Machine from 2020-11-14 Zoom Fixit Clinic) is bringing two items: (Item 1) Electric Steam Mop Shark S3252C It doesn’t produce steam anymore
(Item 2) Plastic coffee mug Handle (bottom part) has come off

NEW:
Sima from CAN-ON-Toronto: Stainless steel hinged tea strainer spoon 2011 or earlier It accidentally went through the wash (a bit in the dryer too), and pin in hinge is gone. Did a search for stainless steel pins/wire. Not sure of availability, or how to "finish" pin at ends. Determined diameter needed is 1.1 mm. (I am sometimes involved with the Toronto Repair Café)

Louisa from USA-CA-Berkeley: Centrifuge juicer Omega 4000 series 2011 or earlier The motor will start, but turns off after a few seconds of running. Consistent. Started one day last year.

Max from USA-CA-San Francisco: Espresso Machine Brewsly CM6851 I bought the machine used. The problem is that the steamer isn't producing steam. It sounds like a motor is turning inside. At first, there was some pressure on the gauge, but now there is no pressure registering. I thought maybe the nipple was clogged. I submerged the nozzle in hot water for 30 seconds and stuck a sewing needle into the nipple, with no change resulting.

Arshad from CAN-ON-Brampton: Microwave Panasonic NN-SN778S 2011 or earlier doesn't power on yes, tried to see youtube videos, and swapped out the fuse

Grainne from CAN-ON-Toronto: Sewing Machine Kenmore 148 12210 2011 or earlier It was jammed at the hand wheel level and I got it repaired. It worked for a bit but now is jammed again. I didn't get to talk directly to the guy who fixed it (Covid time) so didn’t get an explanation for what to do if it happened again I did a little but didn't find this particular issue. I know a little about sewing machines and where they get jammed, sometimes it is simple to fix, but can’t figure out this one. I have volunteered with a local repair cafe.
Report Back: (?-couldn’t find)

Sasha from CAN-ON-Brampton: Two items:
1) Sandwich Maker Cuisinart WM-SW2/WM-SW2C 2011 or earlier When plugged in, the power cord seems to be inconsistent. The function light will blink on and off, and sometimes wiggling the cord will restore the connection.
2) laptop charger Apple A1184 2011 or earlier. The charger has stopped working.  It worked fine a few weeks ago, but now it won't even register as charging my laptop. A few weeks before it stopped working, the charger would provide inconsistent power to my laptop, and I had to wiggle the cord.

Myra from USA-CA-Orinda: Myra (numerous Virtual Fixit Clinics) wants to report back on her Printer Epson Workforce 7610 large format printer 2015 The red ink won't print. It hasn't printed the whole time i've tried to fix it. I bought a second red cartridge and have followed online Global Fixer Server suggestions for cleaning clogged print heads. I have removed and flushed the print head, reinstalled and tested it, no luck yet.
(No Report Back:)

Farrukh from CAN-ON-Mississauga: Game Console Sony Playstation 2 PS2 not playing discs

And here’s the chat:

11:08:26 From Farrukh : so I signed up
11:08:29 From Farrukh : now what
11:09:38 From Jessika Richter : you will get a follow up email from Peter :)
11:10:08 From stephen Adams London UK : check the attachment is not bent
11:10:21 From Peter Mui Fixit Clinic Berkeley CA USA : You can hang around and watch and see if we can get to you.
11:10:22 From Sima : She can set her Zoom audio to Original Sound, and it won’t cut out
11:12:50 From Peter Mui Fixit Clinic Berkeley CA USA : Room heater Lasko 755320 Won't work at all. Not even the light that shows it's plugged in. Found "reset" instructions, which don't have any effect.
11:13:02 From Wayne Seltzer - Boulder U-Fix-It Clinic, Colorado USA : https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2007/06/recall-of-1-2-million-lasko-ceramic-heaters/index.htm
11:13:17 From Peter Mui Fixit Clinic Berkeley CA USA : Electric Steam Mop Shark S3252C 2015 It doesn’t produce steam anymore Nothing
11:13:26 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : wow sima, I did not know that , it's a great tip to remember. audio settings are complex to get to, you can start with one of the choices under 'unmute' will get you to settings and 'original' is near the bottom of 'audio settings'.
11:13:41 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : For the Lasko:
11:15:10 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : For the Shark Steam mop:
11:15:36 From Sima : hi Chris, Yes, you can get to Audio Settings my clocking on the arrow beside the Mute microphone symbol in the bottom left corner of the screen (at least on my screen).
11:15:45 From Sima : *clicking
11:15:51 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : SHark - are you using tap water, is there a lot of minerals in the tap water
11:16:48 From Farrukh : easy glue gun
11:16:59 From Farrukh : or gorilla glue
11:17:16 From Farrukh : gorilla glue is like the strongest glue
11:17:48 From Sasha Goel BRAMPTON ONTARIO : JB Weld might work too
11:17:52 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : yes it is fixable but you have to tolerate a screwhead protruding into the interior (sheet metal screw)
11:17:58 From Wayne Seltzer - Boulder U-Fix-It Clinic, Colorado USA : I like this $9 multimeter, too:
11:18:02 From Farrukh : do gorilla glue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
11:18:52 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : Epoxy might be better, especially if she'll be putting that into a dish washer. E600 is pretty good, and best part is you can keep it for a while in a fridge
11:19:30 From Olivia in Berkeley : how do people feel about Sugru?
11:19:41 From Erin Walker (she/her) Brampton Library : Nancy, I've renamed you ;)
11:19:44 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : sima, did you look for the pin in the bottom of the dishwasher, you don't want that pin going into the dishwasher pump
11:20:15 From Nancy - Brampton, ON : whoever changed my name, thank YOU. may I ask how did you do it please?
11:20:21 From Wayne Seltzer - Boulder U-Fix-It Clinic, Colorado USA : Sugru is fine for making flexible, insulated stuff, like repairing frayed USB cables. Not an adhesive, though.
11:20:26 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : I don't think you can get a roll pin as small as 1,5mm
11:20:28 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : @Olivia, for completely different applications. It's a flexible adhesive, I'd use it for crafts or on the ends of cables close to breaking
11:20:41 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : I wouldn't trust the 'adhesive' aspect of it :)
11:20:57 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : @Nancy, right click your username, 'Rename'
11:21:17 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : time to go to breakout room with tea infuser
11:21:52 From Wayne Seltzer - Boulder U-Fix-It Clinic, Colorado USA : Maybe can find a small stainless steel pin here: https://www.mcmaster.com/pins/material~stainless-steel/
11:21:52 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : brass does not rust but some brass has lead in it
11:22:50 From Howdy Goudey, CA, USA, El Cerrito : The straight pin can be mushroomed like a rivet instead of bent
11:23:35 From Dany (Belgium) : It might need some strong coffee to wake up :-)
11:23:48 From Meagan Gilpin (she/her) - Brampton Library, Ontario Canada : Har har har ;)
11:23:53 From Sima : Chris, thanks for the tip, but it wasn’t the dishwasher, it was the laundry, and yes, I did look for it in both machines.
11:23:59 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : HOWDY, howdy, good to see you. I don't think sewing pins are malleable enuf to peen over
11:24:15 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : For @Louisa's Omega mixer:
11:24:31 From Chris L he/him UC Santa Cruz CA USA : @Howdy Goudey, how do you mushroom the straight pin? Do you smash in the point to flatten it?
11:25:12 From Peter Mui Fixit Clinic Berkeley CA USA : Omega 4000 series 2011 or earlier The motor will start, but turns off after a few seconds of running. Consistent. Started one day last year.
11:26:46 From Peter Mui Fixit Clinic Berkeley CA USA : Espresso Machine Brewsly CM6851 I bought the machine used. The problem is that the steamer isn't producing steam. It sounds like a motor is turning inside. At first, there was some pressure on the gauge, but now there is no pressure registering. Yes. I thought maybe the nipple was clogged. I submerged the nozzle in hot water for 30 seconds and stuck a sewing needle into the nipple, with no change resulting.
11:30:19 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : I think the steamer works from a pump inside, sometimes there is a valve that directs the pump flow to brewer basket or steamer.  may be valve malfunction or clog. SF water does not have a lot of minerals.
11:31:13 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : however if someone spilled coffee grounds in water reservoir, it may have clogged steamer circuit.
11:31:57 From Peter Mui Fixit Clinic Berkeley CA USA : Panasonic Microwave panasonic NN-SN778S 2011 or earlier doesn't power on yes, tried to see youtube videos, and swapped out the fuse
11:32:56 From Howdy Goudey, CA, USA, El Cerrito : @Chris, I can't claim to have actually tried it with a sewing pin, success might depend on the properties of the pin alloy used. I was just thinking of clipping the pin a few mm longer than the hinge and using a hammer and punch to mushroom the end of the pin a bit. There would also need to be a good firm support of the head of pin while punching the other end.
11:33:15 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : Could be a busted fuse @Arshad - are you sure you replaced it with the correct fuse? Slow-blow vs fast-blow?
11:33:22 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : @ howdy, agreed
11:33:41 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : I've replaced fuses on microwaves that are picky with regards to the type of fuse.
11:34:08 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : microwave - need to check with multimeter to trace power. breakout room
11:34:40 From Gregg Ferry Carlsbad CA USA : is it me? the zoom audio and video keeps freezing.
11:34:44 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : hey it's okay if the kids wanna be in the background!
11:34:53 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : For @Arshad's Panasonic Microwave:
11:35:16 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : @ Gregg, mine is fine, you may have a tenuous connection
11:35:19 From Farrukh missisauga on : am I the only kid in the zoom
11:35:26 From Farrukh missisauga on : -_-
11:35:31 From Jace sessford (they/them),Ca : same
11:35:44 From Jace sessford (they/them),Ca : @farrukh
11:35:51 From Farrukh missisauga on : aight
11:35:51 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : We're all kids at heart :D
11:36:03 From Farrukh missisauga on : bruh
11:37:03 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : does it have belt drive?
11:38:21 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : @Sasha's Cuisinart Sandwich Maker:
11:39:08 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : yeh, does the sandwich grill get  moved around from place to place a lot.  i.e. cable gets flexed a lot??
11:39:58 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : @Sasha could be a dirty connector, or broken cable.
11:40:03 From Grainne Toronto Sewing machine : Yes Chris.
11:40:39 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : apple charge cables are famous for internal conductor breaking
11:40:53 From Sima : Could just be debris. I had that problem.
11:41:25 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : Agreed with Sima and Richard - these mag connectors can attract dust & debris.
11:42:51 From Chris in berkeley, ca, usa : @ grainne, you checked that the belt is working properly?? we'll discuss in breakout
11:43:20 From Alvin (Brampton, ON) : "Learning is guaranteed!". Love it.
11:43:24 From Chris L he/him UC Santa Cruz CA USA : ^^
11:43:50 From Grainne Toronto Sewing machine : Chris,
11:44:29 From Grainne Toronto Sewing machine : If I turn the wheel manually the belt turns. Yes, We can discuss in the group. Thank you
