(Hi Global Fixers: I'm still working on getting the video up from today's Virtual Fixit Clinic but I wanted to share this email I just received. -Peter)

At Virtual Fixit Clinic 557 2020-07-12 Virtual Fixit Clinic Boulder Colorado US earlier today we saw Sandeep from Melbourne Victoria Australia:

Sewing machine St. James Rhythm 2010 or earlier Doesn't rotate, seems jammed Opened the pulley (hand wheel), lifted and looked inside. Also opened faceplate and stitch indicator (http://needlebar.org/main/15chart/110/index.html) to see if anything is moving.

(Here's some video from towards the end of today's Fixit Clinic: https://youtu.be/67ZFRaKKgKQ?t=4622)

Sandeep just emailed that it's working:

Hi Peter - It worked .. hurray. I am so excited.

Thanks to everyone. Please convey this message to everyone who helped - Frank, Frank, "Stalker" lady, Wayne, there were few others in the room. Also a big thank you to the organizers and whoever is involved. I would definitely try to join you in the next session, although its very early for me.

Steps taken:
1. Cleaned it with WD-40
2. Blow dried it with hair dryer.
3. Put lubricant oil.

The folks made it so simple.

Huge thanks.
Sandeep

pardon me for potentially belaboring the obvious, but does this mean
that all it needed was cleaning & lubing?

Yes, it needed a good soaking with WD40 to penetrate into the stuck bearings/bushings, a bit of heat, cleaning off the solvent residue and applying some proper lubricant.
