Hey everyone, Sharing some Malala Day plans for your reference.
Every year on her birthday, Malala meets with young women to hear their stories, amplify their demands and bring attention to the barriers girls around the world face to their education. In previous years she has met girls in Nigeria, Iraq, Mexico, Brazil and more. This year, the focus is on Afghan girls.
Afghan women and girls are living under gender apartheid and Afghanistan is the only country in the world to ban girls from secondary education, resulting in girls being out of school for more than 1000 days and counting.
This week, Malala is spending her birthday at a school in London, where she’s meeting Afghan students Somaya, Muska and Sana to chat about their journey to the U.K. and hopes for girls’ future in Afghanistan. And together they will facilitate a discussion with other students at the school, work on a mural together and write letters to girls in Afghanistan.
On July 12, we will share highlights and visuals from the day on Malala Fund’s various channels and we hope you can help amplify them on your end.
Here are some existing Afghanistan specific content that might be helpful for context setting:
Here are also some general assets that might be helpful if you'd prefer to mark Malala Day in other ways. The folder has a list of recent quotes from Malala, graphics featuring a few of the quotes and some new portraits of Malala.
Thanks so much for your support.
Best,
