Dear ECW Strategic Comms Colleagues,
Friday, 14 June, marks the 1,000th day of the unacceptable ban on secondary school girls’ education in Afghanistan. No other country in the world bans girls and women from receiving an education.
The denial of girls’ education anywhere is a threat to girls’ education everywhere.
To mark this tragic date, Education Cannot Wait (ECW) - the global fund for education in emergencies & protracted crises within the UN - has completely updated its ongoing global #AfghanGirlsVoices advocacy campaign with all-new social media content, including compelling Afghan girls’ testimonies and art work, editorial cartoons, and high-level advocate quotes by: The Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown (UN Special Envoy for Global Education); Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner); ECW Global Champion Christina Lamb (I Am Malala); Ahmed Hussen (Minister of International Development, Canada); Richard Bennett (UN Special Rapporteur Afghanistan); Somaya Faruqi & Folly Bah Thibault (ECW Global Champions); Ziauddin Yousafzai (Malala Fund Co-Founder); Mick Sheldrick (Global Citizen Co-Founder) and many more.
Here’s the #AfghanGirlsVoices social media pack: https://bit.ly/45pkYhW We encourage you to post this new campaign content across your social media channels, from today and until the ban is lifted.
Please also share this message with relevant partners and influencers who may wish to amplify. Additionally, you and your Principals are welcome to contribute quotes for inclusion in this ongoing campaign.
We know your audiences will want to help raise the voices of Afghan girls globally by sharing and amplifying the campaign, launched by UN Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown and developed by ECW in close collaboration with our Global Champion Somaya Faruqi, former Captain of the Afghan Girls’ Robotics Team. The inspiring, resilient and heartbreaking testimonies in the #AfghanGirlsVoices campaign are conveyed through moving art work by an anonymous young Afghan female artist. We will continue to update the pack with new content, including multi-lingual content to be included soon.
ECW has been supporting non-formal, community-based education across Afghanistan since 2017. Working with partners, ECW supports 250,000 children and adolescents across some of the most remote and underserved areas of the country, half of whom are girls. Many thanks for your continued impactful education support with ECW for crisis-affected girls and boys - and for supporting Afghan girls!
