Dear Global Cataract group,

Vision Outreach International and Global Sight Alliance will be putting on a live surgery teaching course on MSICS in Fort Worth, Texas on Sept 8 - 10, 2017.  This course will feature onsite live surgery as part of the course in addition to didactics by experienced MSICS faculty including Dr. Glenn Strauss and Dr. Diego Mejia.

This is a sequel course to the one in January 2015 also in Fort Worth that focused on "Training the Trainers to Train"

We anticipate around 70 participants in the course who will mainly be western graduate Phaco surgeons at various stages of learning or mastering MSICS and teaching MSICS.

The unique part of the course this year is that we are going to offer hands-on training followup for the attendees which will include from 3 days to 1 week of working with an experienced MSICS trainer.   These courses can be scheduled between September 2017 to September 2018.   The student will pay for this followup and the trainer will be offered a portion of the training fee.

Please reply if you have interest in being involved in such an endeavor for this next year.   In general, students may be able to derive support for IOLs and viscoelastics and other supplies for these experiences but this will need to be worked out.

There will be some specific criteria for teaching that will be established to work to have a standardized experience as much as possible for each student.

For those of you who do not have a teaching microscope, a video teaching addon to a Zeiss compatible scope may be available as well.

If you are interested, please send the following information to help us get started:
1.  How many days would you be willing to have a student for this experience (3 - 5 days or longer?)
2.  How many potential students could you handle at one time (1 - 3?)
3.  How many cases would a student who is prepared likely be able to perform under your supervision in the specified time frame?
4.  How many different separate sessions would you have ability to provide?
5.  Do you have a teaching microscope?
6.  Do you have teaching experience in MSICS?
7.  What questions do you have?

Thanks for anyone who has interest.
