Dear Pinoy Abroad Forum members:
I would like to make a special , urgent request to leaders of OFW leaders in
this Forum to engage with the discussion around the campaign for Dr.
Astillero as head of OWWA.
There is a news item in the Saudi Gazette today regarding the Partido
Pandaigdigang Pilipino - a recently established political party for
overseas Pinoy - and the same group that has been running this petition
campaign for Dr. Astillero. The news item cited the intetion of PPP to
field candidates in the 2010 elections inc Dr. AStillero as senatorial
candidate.
Please read the exchanges below between me and the supporters of Dr.
Astillero. I have nothing personal against these individuals in the PPP
Riyadh and you be the judge if their intention to have Dr. Astillero become
the head OWWA and administrator of millions or billions of OWWA funds can be
divorced entirely from their political ambition for 2010.
I'm paging friends in the media to report about this development. This is
the lesat you can do to secure what is already a very dangerous period for
OWWA funds .
Thank you for patience.
Edna

Dear Bong:
I became very interested in finding out more about Dr. Astillero after the
background you sent about him.
I googled him after your email and I'm really intrigued by this news item in
the SAudi Gazette published today regarding the recently launched Partido ng
pandaigdigang Pilipino (PPP) which had your name , Alex Bello as charter
members of PPP-Riyadh chapter. The news item says :" The PPP is expected to
participate in the 2010 Philippine national election and will be fielding
its candidates from local to the national level of political positions. Dr.
Carlito Astillero, a leading community leader in Riyadh and president of the
PPP Riyadh chapter, is already being groomed to run in the senatorial race
in 2010. "

I'm trying my best to exercise self-control in my words here : don't you
think this is rather unscrupulous of PPP to be campaigning for Dr. Astillero
to head the OWWA and therefore be entrusted of the management of miilions
if not billions of OWWA funds given this background of PPP's political
ambition including your interest to have Dr. Astillero run for the SEnate in
2010?
Now I understand why certain GFN personalities are unqestionably
supporting this campaign for Dr. Astillero for the OWWA post. I was one of
the founding members of GFN and I asked Jun Aguilar during the founding
meeting last year about the link between the GFN and this party in formation
and didn't get a straightforward answer except to say that these two are
independent initiatives (but by almost the same set of people). At any
rate, I did not sign up and endorse the creation of this party because
partisan politics is not my cup of team; whatever my political preferences
are mine alone.
I cannot believe what I'm discovering now. And I have to say that I'm
extremely disappointed, to say the least.
