JEMS CANARI Participatory Climate Risk Mapping Project
The first in a series of Climate Risk Mapping Participatory workshops will take place in Mespo at the Emmanuel High School on Thursday 9th May 2024 at 5pm. Over 40 participants representing youth, women, farmers and other sectors of the population will participate in the workshop to assess the impacts of climate change and calamities such as volcanic eruptions on people's livelihood and biodiversity/conservation of the community.
The agenda for the participatory risk mapping workshop includes a) brief presentation on the JEMS CANARI Participatory Climate Risk Mapping Research project, b) presentation on the impacts of climate change on people's livelihood and conservation, c) the implementation of Participatory Climate Risk Mapping exercise to identify the areas in the community that are impacted by climate stressors and d) implementing a survey to assess people's perceptions on the impacts of climate change.
The workshop is facilitateted by Dr Andrew Simmons, Climate Change Scientist. Similar workshops will be held in Chateaubelair, Cumberland/Spring Village area, Vermont Valley, Colonaire and Georgetown/Orange Hill. The project is supported by the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) under the project Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF). The Participatory Climate Risk Mapping Project is implemented by JEMS as part of its strategy to build the resilience of communities in St Vincent and the Grenadines to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
