Ihave a Carver 3600stc heater which works fine on mains but was trying to get it working on gas, I switch on the main switch, select auto gas, turn the knob on the heater to ignition and a little red light illuminates on the knob but can't hear any clicking.

I think on your heater, ignition is from the caravan battery. The supply should have a fuse in it. Check that the 5amp fuse hasn't blown. Then turn on the gas, hold down the button for 20 seconds, allow time for the gas to clear, then press again.
