Every iPhone (and any other phone, for that matter) has a unique 15-digit number called an IMEI, or International Mobile Equipment Identity. You usually have no reason to know your phone's IMEI number and can safely ignore its existence.

Generally, the only reason you'll ever need to know your IMEI number is if you want to unlock your iPhone from a specific carrier to use it with a different service provider. In that case, you'll need to know the IMEI number to complete the unlocking process.

Quick tip: Alternatively, if the iPhone is signed in to your Apple ID, you can go to Settings > [Your Name]. At the bottom of the screen, tap on the device to see its IMEI at the bottom.

-us/HT204073 (Although you say the iTunes method doesn't work for you. Just thought I'd share in case you needed the steps). Also, if you google "how to find iPhone imei without phone" you will find other suggestions.

Google lead to my only option of going to the carrier and having them find the IMEI or serial #, I would get on customer support chat or something but its closed right now so I can only rely on a mod or something to help

Why exactly isn't finding the imei via iTunes an option for you? Did you never sync your iPhone with a computer using iTunes? If none of the Google options are helpful to you and you can't use the iTunes method then you will need to try calling someone when the lines are open. You may not get a response from a VZW rep as quickly as you may need on here...but maybe someone else will chime in.

I need to get serial number and IMEI number one my lost/stolen phone for Apple. Also how can I recover where my phone was last connected to Find my Phone as I received an email in the middle of the night that the phone in question had disabled the Find my Phone

IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. It's an industry standard shared between mobile carriers and manufacturers for security purchases. Your IMEI is important because you'll need it for registration, support forms, or checking a device history for theft.

You can easily check the Settings app to find your IMEI number on any iPhone or cellular iPad. Go to General > About, and with a little scrolling, you'll easily find the IMEI number of your iOS device.

For the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 6/6 Plus, you will be able to find the IMEI number directly on the metal casing of the iPhone. To clarify, you can find it printed in the lower middle section of the device.

Once you've connected your iPhone to your Mac using the included Lightning to USB cable, open the Finder app and select your iPhone or cellular iPad from the sidebar. Then, go to the General tab and repeatedly click the area under the device name until it reveals the IMEI number.

Once you connect your iPhone to your computer using the included Lightning to USB cable, open iTunes. Then, click Summary to see your Apple device information, including the IMEI number.

Many Apple fans keep the sleek, white box that their iPhone or iPad came with. If you're one of the lucky people who kept theirs, you can find the IMEI number printed on a sticker on the box. This is great if you don't have a device handy.

If you don't have your iPhone or iPad with you but need its IMEI number, there may still be hope online. As long as the device is connected to your iCloud account, you can get your iPhone's IMEI information from Apple's website.

To do this, go to appleid.apple.com on any web browser. Then, sign in with your Apple ID and check the list of devices. Once you have found the device you need information on, click the device name to show the IMEI number.

If you need to find the IMEI online and maybe don't have your phone or another Apple device handy, you still have a last-resort option. You can find your IMEI online through your network provider's website.

Some carriers, like T-Mobile, show you the IMEI online under your device information. To get this information, just log into your carrier account and look at the devices. Most carriers will list your IMEI there. If you have a contract plan, your contract copy will also have your IMEI.

If you're looking to buy a second-hand Apple device, the IMEI number is one of the best ways to find out how legit it is. Any history of theft, criminal activity, or carrier blocking should be tied to the device using this number.

Aside from this, IMEI numbers may also be necessary when talking to Apple Support. Using the IMEI number of your iPhone, Apple can quickly tell what model your device is, what year it was released, and whether a warranty covers it.

IMHO the IMEI is a device identifier (International Mobile Station Equipment Identity). You can retrieve it from any device by dialling *#06#. So technically its not a real secret, and anyone borrowing your phone for a short moment can crack it of it. The IMEI is bound to the device, not your phone number or account. It could be used to track stolen phones, and to lock them out from networks (done in a few countries, but not across borders or carriers normally, they could not agree on a global DB). However, some phones apparently allow changing the IMEI, which is of course a bad idea (why hardware vendors allow such things BTW, is it too hard to burn in a number of bytes and then make them read-only?) and people could overwrite it easily.

If WhatsApp would use the IMEI for personal identity I could not change my phone anymore, if my old one breaks. The entire idea of GSM was and is that you are not bound to the phone, rather you are just bound to the SIM card, and SIM is what required to be protected. The SIM is your key to your telephone number, thats the reason why you got a PIN code and why it locks you out after 3 failed attempts...
