To get cash from a card, kids can:
1) make a withdrawal from an ATM (use one in our free nationwide network to avoid any fees)
2) get cash back from an in-store PIN based purchase (if the merchant offers that option)
3) get cash from a parent and have the parent debit the FamZoo card account accordingly. That causes the "withdrawn" amount to flow back to the family's primary funding card so the parent is being paid back for the cash withdrawal from the ATM of Mom/Dad.
All of our cards have their own account and routing number combo which makes the card look like a checking account to the outside financial world. So, a card can be linked to a financial institution as an external checking account. Once linked, you can transfer funds from your card into a savings or investment account at the institution.
If by virtual account you mean an IOU account, then that account merely tracks an amount the parent owes the child. If you want to "move" the IOU to an actual savings account, then transfer the desired amount from one of your own accounts into the child's actual savings account and debit the IOU account by the same amount.
Interesting: we've never had that question or issue raised. I suspect that a school photo ID (common in middle and high school) would suffice. That said, in over 3 years of offering our cards, we've never had a customer mention having a problem with their teen's card being rejected by an in-store merchant for identification reasons. I suppose it could be an issue, but we have not seen it yet.
If the sending party knows the account/routing numbers for the recipient's FamZoo card (see -card-faqs.html#routing-account-nums), they can use a service like PopMoney to move money directly to the recipient. See -load-prepaid-card-from-checking-account.html
Hi, wondering if it's possible to copy a checklist in its entirety to assign to a different child. (i.e.; Child 1 and Child 2 are both expected to tidy their bedrooms and take showers on Sunday. I don't want Child 2 to do both items, check them off, then have it look to Child 1 that they are off the hook for both since they've been checked off if the kids share a checklist. However, creating separate checklists with many entries on each is time consuming... Is there a way to click a button to completely copy (and then rename) a checklist? Thanks!
Apologies, but we don't have a "clone a list" capability yet, so the initial setting up the additional lists can be a bit tedious. Hopefully the lists contain largely stable repeating items so it isn't too much maintenance after the setup phase. You may also want to turn on alerts ( -faqs.html#checklist-alerts) to catch any check-off shenanigans in real-time.
With the exception of explicit account to account transfers, the amounts generally come from the one primary funding card in the family.

Jo Anna: Yes, teens can have paychecks directly deposited to their cards. Mine did for their summer and part-time jobs. Worked out great.
Re Apple Pay: At the moment, our card processor does not support Apple Pay. As of mid 2018, our card processor indicates they are not seeing sufficient demand from cardholders to schedule the development effort, but they continue to monitor.

I find it easiest to just act as the family ATM by collecting the cash myself and crediting the child's FamZoo card the corresponding amount. You can also load cash on a card at a participating retailer, but they'll typically charge around $4. Is there a way to set up a Direct Deposit to automatically split on a child's card? In otherwords, if a child gets a direct deposit for $100, and we have a 50/50 split, can 50 go on the spending card, and 50 go into the savings automatically?
Technically, the recipient of the MoneyPak must be 18 years of age to retrieve the funds according to GreenDot's requirements posted here: So, loading the MoneyPak onto the parent card, and then transferring the funds within FamZoo is the safest route.
Yes, a purchase attempt made when there are not sufficient funds on the FamZoo card will just harmlessly decline, and there is never a fee assessed - even when it's an automatic recurring charge (like, say, Spotify) which is a fee loophole with a normal bank debit card - see: -teens-auto-billing-overdraft-debit-cards.html
I know there is a routing number, etc. on the back of the card in TINY print that lets the outside world see the "card" as a checking account. Is there a way to print a document within the program to give to employers for direct deposit or to Social Security for children who receive SSDI?
If you have a PayPal account, you can link your FamZoo card as a bank account using the card's routing and account numbers. Then you can transfer funds from your PayPal wallet to your linked FamZoo card account. See: -to-use-your-prepaid-card-with-paypal.html
Yesterday my daughter did some extra chores, like washing all the dinner dishes and cleaning up the kitchen, all on her own, which was impressive. We told her she could request some money for it for the initiative, and she created a Request for Money for $2, which we approved. Today she did them again, and we said ok, but $0.50 because it's not all about the money, but wanted to recognize her continued effort and good deed in a small way. The question is, can she put in a Request for Money again? We do not see it on the Mobile App. On the screen she did it yesterday, is now only says Request History - showing yesterdays request, but no link to request again. When will that reappear? Is there a weekly limit? I couldn't find anything in the FAQs Thanks.
The Request Money icon (right pointing arrow) is always available in the child's view on the Accounts listing page - just to the left of the account name. So, requests can be launched from there any time and repeatedly. (When parents sign in, they see the +/- icons to the left of each account instead.)
I don't like that money moved from a child's spending account to the same child's savings (IOU) account is moved back to the parent donor card. I get that the money is held on that card, but it shows the amount twice, once in the child's IOU, and then again added to the main funding card. This is confusing because now there is more money on the funding card than actually available. Plus the amount is listed in the child's IOU as a positive. Thus, creating two positive amounts of the same monies. Is there a better way to do this that I am not realizing? Can a saving or charity account not be an IOU account so the money stays on their own card?
Yes, you can make your saving and charity accounts be prepaid card accounts instead of IOU accounts so that they hold the actual dollars. (A physical card comes with every prepaid account, but most parents just keep the additional cards in their desk drawer so the kids aren't wandering around with them.) any update on an API? I keep forgeting to check off my tasks, and, would like to be able to build a button panel app for my computer to be able to check them off there? the phone thing, works. but, not super good
This is a two part question. I've tried to debit my childs Savings account in order to move it to their Spending account. However, every time I've tried to "withdraw" the amount, it has not flowed back to the primary funding card. It's just gone. Where do the debited funds go to if not to the primary funding card, and how can I move money from a childs Savings to their Spending?

If you use Chrome, they can add a bookmark to your home screen by selecting the menu in the upper right (three dots) and selecting "Add to Home screen".
If it is a standalone IOU Account, you select the plus icon next to the account and enter a credit transaction. If it is a card IOU, you can manipulate the card IOU balance directly by going to the Transactions page for the card account in the Desktop UI, clicking on the card IOU balance (beneath the large card balance in the upper right) and credit the card IOU balance directly. I apologize if this question has been asked previously. Is there a way to dispute a charge on my child's card? I have contacted the merchant and they are not issuing a refund for a mistaken charge that they made. They are only offering in-store credit.
You can dispute an *unauthorized* charge (card physically stolen or compromised in a data breach), but disputes with merchants to whom you have supplied the card information need to be addressed to the merchant as per our cardholder agreement.
If my kid has two cards one is for spending and the other is for Saving. Can my kid transfer the amount he wants to save onto his saving account card from his spending account himself? Or would I have to transfer the money for him through my account app.?? AAlso my kids mother and I are seperated.. Is there a way she can add money to my kids account without her having my account info?
