Hi all,
The CAHGC (Cape Albatross Hang-Gliding Club), through the generosity and hard-work of individual members, has done some site maintenance on the launch at Sir Lowry's Pass. While it has not been extended in any way, the main section has been built up and had new grass laid on top. This won't make a huge difference to paragliders launching other than provide more even footing, but improves the safety for hanggliders dramatically as it allows the pilot to keep the wingtips clear of the ground while launching.
Please treat the new grass with due care and help preserve the surface. Hopefully we can all enjoy the fruits of their labour into the future.
Professionally assessed plans to extend the takeoff area by use of gabions have also been drawn up, but funding is needed to make this happen (the CAHGC is willing to commit funds if they can be matched). Anyone keen to take this forward should contact the club.
Have fun and stay away from the edges of the sky,
