AtlantisUnderwater Tycoon is an underwater city-building simulation game in which the player acts as a tycoon to simulate the real-time design and management of an underwater civilization. It was developed by American studio Anarchy Enterprises and published by Activision Value, and released on March 21, 2003, for Microsoft Windows.

In Atlantis Underwater Tycoon, the player can choose to play in missions or in a sandbox-environment map to start building their underwater colony. The player chooses a tycoon character to play as who comes with their own positive and negative traits, such as providing bonus starting money, or having a disreputable attitude towards sea life.

The player starts on the ocean floor with a home base and a set amount of money. The player then expands the underwater colony by constructing various residential, utility, commercial, industrial, tourist, and military buildings that extend outward from the home base in a design conducive to the ocean floor, linking them with air tubes, and terraforming the seabed if needed.[6][5] The player is able to collect and store items produced by commercial and industrial buildings in warehouses and sell them off in a market. The player can also breed new wildlife to live in the city's waters, such as dolphins or sharks, as well as create underwater vehicles to roam around the city.[6] As the city grows, a wider range of buildings and residents become available. Such buildings include whale sanctuaries, sea turtle aquariums, shopping malls, oil drills, and prison facilities.[7] New and better buildings bring in more citizens and tourists, generating more income for the city. Over time, buildings nearing their life expectancies can be demolished to make room for new buildings.[5] In the late stages of the game, the player can unlock the ability to build Atlantean structures.[6]

In addition to having to manage the economic aspects of the game, the player must also contend with attacks from enemy pirates and from enemy Atlanteans, as well as deal with underwater natural disasters. Military vessels and friendly Atlantean defenders can be recruited to defend against such attacks.[2] Military defenses, such as sonic cannons and missile turrets, can be controlled by the player to shoot projectiles at hostile vessels and destructive debris to destroy them.[2]

On the whole, the player prevents the city from falling into harm by keeping a watchful eye out for enemy invaders and natural disasters, while managing the city's businesses so that population happiness, tourism, and sea life can prosper, all the while avoiding the city plunging into financial trouble.

Atlantis Underwater Tycoon has been praised for its well-done visuals and its snappy underwater music track.[2][6][1] The ability to see into buildings and view the people within nightclubs and movie theaters is also a nice plus.[1] The visual depiction of night and day from the rays of light shining down on the city also provides for a nice ambiance effect.[1] The top moments in the game can be attributed to the times when a player's prospering city "[comes] under attack from enemy subs, and the player reacts to mount a counter-attack to avoid all the player's hard work from being obliterated."[6]

Ocean CoveTypeCove; Somewhat of anomaly, Ocean RingLocationGeographic Feature; Entire right-side of Ocean, accessible by Taiga Mountain PassageMusicAmbient E Singing Bells Frank NoraMapThe Ocean Cove is a circular geographical feature located between the Snow Peninsula and the Cliff Peninsula.

It is considered a cove because of how well it is shielded from the rest of the ocean. This cove, surrounded by a set of smooth walls, the Snow Peninsula, Land Bridge and the Cliff Peninsula is particularly hidden compared to other biomes of the game. Its circular shape highly suggests that something in the future will occupy this location; but no further predictions can be made about it.

If you jump into the ocean, similar to other bodies of water it will slowly damage you until you die. The only way to get across the ocean legitimately is by using the Ferry. It is approximately 25 studs in depth, which makes it impossible to reach its ocean bed without a vehicle. Its ocean bed is tan and sandy, similar to the surfaces of the Sand Islands.

Hurricanes and typhoons are the same weather phenomenon: tropical cyclones. A tropical cyclone is a generic term used by meteorologists to describe a rotating, organized system of clouds and thunderstorms that originates over tropical or subtropical waters and has closed, low-level circulation.

The weakest tropical cyclones are called tropical depressions. If a depression intensifies such that its maximum sustained winds reach 39 miles per hour, the tropical cyclone becomes a tropical storm. Once a tropical cyclone reaches maximum sustained winds of 74 miles per hour or higher, it is then classified as a hurricane, typhoon, or tropical cyclone, depending upon where the storm originates in the world. In the North Atlantic, central North Pacific, and eastern North Pacific, the term hurricane is used. The same type of disturbance in the Northwest Pacific is called a typhoon. Meanwhile, in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean, the generic term tropical cyclone is used, regardless of the strength of the wind associated with the weather system.

The ingredients for tropical cyclones include a pre-existing weather disturbance, warm tropical oceans, moisture, and relatively light winds. If the right conditions persist long enough, they can combine to produce the violent winds, large waves, torrential rains, and floods we associate with this phenomenon. At times, when a weather system does not meet all of these conditions, but is forecast to bring tropical storm or hurricane force winds to land in the next day or two, it is called a potential tropical cyclone in the Atlantic basin and the central and eastern North Pacific basins.

In the Atlantic, hurricane season officially runs from June 1 to November 30. Ninety-seven percent of tropical cyclone activity occurs during this time period. However, there is nothing magical about these dates. Hurricanes can and do occur outside of this six month period.

The main parts of a tropical cyclone are the rainbands, the eye, and the eyewall. Air spirals in toward the center in a counter-clockwise pattern in the northern hemisphere (clockwise in the southern hemisphere), and out the top in the opposite direction. In the very center of the storm, air sinks, forming an "eye" that is mostly cloud-free.

Atlantis Underwater Tycoon is a 2003 Simulation Game created by Anarchy Enterprises and published by Unique Entertainment under the Activision Value label in which you are tasked with building and maintaining an underwater city. You will have to balance the needs of residents (both human and Atlantean), tourists, and sea life while also managing your power and air grids and defending your city from attacks.

The game had a very slightly enhanced re-release as Deep Sea Tycoon. The company Pixel after Pixel went with this new name with the sequel, Deep Sea Tycoon 2.This game has examples of: Absent-Minded Professor: Absent Mindstein is described as being so absent-minded that he ends up inventing more whimsical but useless things than genuine life-improving things. He also apparently "left the keys to his time machine in the past." Which is probably why his main drawback is -10% Starting Funds if you choose him. Ascended Extra: Fins the Dolphin was originally just one of numerous selectable characters in the first game before becoming the tutorial guide in Deep Sea Tycoon 2. Cloud Cuckoolander: All the playable characters have some notable eccentricity. Fish People: The Atlanteans, scaly, gilled humanoids who you can incorporate into your predominantly human population. Giant Squid: They occasionally show up in the deep sea maps. Human Resources: One building you can construct lets you harvest organs from prisoners. Lethal Lava Land: Volcano Reef. Our Mermaids Are Different: The games gives you the opportunity to attract traditional mermaids to your city distinct from the Atlanteans. Pirate Booty: Treasure chests are frequently present on the ocean floor alongside the wrecks of old sailing ships. They can be plundered for treasure that can be sold to humans and Atlanteans for various prices. Seahorse Steed: The game has a building, the "Atlantean Castle", that spawns merman knights that ride seahorses to protect your city. Shout-Out: The character HAL2 D2 is a reference to both HAL 9000 and R2-D2. The character Anvil's description says that he "ain't got time to bleed." One of the characters is named "Indiana James." The name of one "Super-Cop" character is "Jeordi Le Dredd." Slippy-Slidey Ice World: Arctic Ocean and Antarctic Circle. Stock Ness Monster: One structure allows you to attract plesiosaur-like sea monsters to your city. Underwater City: The main premise of the game is to build one. Video Game Cruelty Potential: You can build pollution-heavy power plants and organ harvesting centers. There's even a special button for triggering disasters.
