MyHp probook 4330s was working fine last night, tried to turn on today after charging all night and it won't turn on. Theres a small light that flashes orange when I press the power button, tried removing the battery and holding down the power button but didn't work. Anything I can do?!

We have 75 of these in our company and have had 3 fail the same way in the last few month. The machine refuses to switch on, whether on power or battery. All that happens is the power button LED (white) lights for a couple of seconds then goes off. We have tried stripping them down, rebuilding, swapping batteries, hard drives, memory, psu etc but nothing works.

The fix, strip the thing to bits, remove the bios battery for 5 mins, replace, rebuild & reboot, laptop powers up with a white screen stating it needs to fix the corrupted bios, once its done restart, reset the clock and its all working fine.

I have a similar issue it won't turn on it doesnt react to the power button in any way, just flashes white and orange when I plug in the charger, I tried replacing the bios battery and it didn't help, any ideas?

This problem just comes and goes randomly and when it does come means that the laptop cannot be used without being permanently connected to mains power. This is very annoying for a mobile device owned by someone who travels a lot and needs it in the field on battery power!

I spoke with HP and after running through all the previous suggestions again, the "No Battery Is Detected" is still showing. HP have now decided to send out a new battery in exchange for the old one which should arrive in the next few days.

Apologies, There does seem to be another possible solution buried within that link which states that if the laptop will start on battery power then reinstall the operating system using System Recovery.

Also, this laptop was delivered new with this problem already on it so restoring the laptop to a previous setting, or reinstalling the OP system, or setting the BIOS to default , etc, etc does not make sense to do.

Update= Whilst it appears I can start the laptop on battery power, it only remained on battery power with no battery detected for 15 mins. Then it shutdown unexpectedly. So it appears the battery is not detected and is not charging so now I can only start on mains power. To which your link says to contact HP.

1

Check the settings in "Power Options" in the "Control Panel." Open the "Control Panel" from the "Start" menu and double-click the "Power Options" icon. Check the settings in the "Running on batteries" section of the "Power Schemes" tab. If the "Turn off monitor," "Turn off hard disks" and "System standby" settings are set to shut your computer down after only a minute or two, adjust them to a longer time limit. Click the "Power Meter" tab and check the "Show details for each battery" box.

2

Update your drivers. If the "Power Meter" tab displays an "Unknown device" or "Battery not recognized" error, go to the website of your laptop's manufacturer and update your drivers to the latest version. If your laptop drivers are all up-to-date, update your Windows processes. You can do this by clicking the "Windows Update" link in the "Start" menu. Device driver issues can often occur when updating an older laptop to the Windows 7 operating system.

3

Perform a hard battery boot. Shut down your laptop and disconnect the AC power cord and the hp Probook 4330s Battery. Wait 30 seconds, then put your battery back in and boot up your computer. This will reset the control circuitry in your battery. If your computer doesn't boot, it may be a physical problem with the battery.

4

Check the metal connections on the battery and motherboard. If there is any debris, tarnishing or residue on the battery connections, they will not work properly. Shut down your laptop and remove the AC power cord. Clean the battery terminals with a very-fine grit sandpaper. Blow away any dust, reconnect the battery and boot up your computer.

5

Replace the battery. If your laptop battery has simply reached the end of its life, the only option is to replace it. If you replace the battery and your computer still does not boot with only the battery attached, it is likely that the battery connection circuitry on your motherboard has failed.

The problem is not OS driver or software related. Same problem appears with Quickweb, and when you powerup the laptop for window, normally you get in the first screen after bios start a battery status!

In the end I had to return to my laptop to HP for repairs. They fixed the problem but it meant the laptop was away fo around 3 weeks. The problem has not returned since and has been over a year now without any problems.

It is important that when buying a replacement laptop charger that you do so from a reputable company. Just like many electronic products, high quality laptop chargers are copied and sold as the real thing but at a much lower price. These chargers look very convincing and it may be tempting to opt for a cheaper product but these chargers are manufacturered on the cheap and more often than not lack the protections that make them safe.
