I have the same problem with a second generation HMI. My TIA PORTAL version is V16 the only difference is that I can not connect also with android Sm@rtclient. I always receive the message "SSL handshake failed". If I power off the HMI and repower it back on then I CAN connect to it through Sm@rtclient android or windows version and any other VNC client (UltraVNC etc). But after some minutes the connection is again impossible and I receive the message "SSL handshake failed".

Please try to change the external port from 5900 to 5910 which has way less traffic. But be aware, if the port is changed from 5900 to 5910 on the external side, you must also call this new port when the connection shall be done.

Also, even though you're using V16 TIA Portal, check that the panel is set up as V16 under the panel properties. When you copy or upgrade an old project, the HMI panel version does not automatically upgrade.

Although I have installed update 4 for panel images from Siemens and I waited for the file to have a 4 in the dercription somewhere, this is actually the latest firmware file which also Siemens Support confirmed. The problem continues to exist even after this even though I have done an image upgrade.

The upgrade of the firmware is completed with no errors and through Prosave when I check what firmware the panel has this is confirmed that if has the latest firmware as you can see in the following picture

Both these methods had the same negative result. At first I can communicate with the panel but after some minuts the SSL HANDSHAKE ERROR message reappears. Power on off the HMI and I can communicate again but only for some minutes

From Siemens support they suggested that I changed the ports on the HMI insted of 5900 to put 5850 and istead of 5800 to put 5750 and obviously also to change the prot forwarding rule in my router 5900->5850 and 5800->5750.

Unfortunately I tried what you suggested but The result is the same. Only if I put Enable Empty passwords to ON the I can connect but that is not what i want. Any other suggestions. I repeat that I have thw latest firmware for TIA v17.

At home I have a remote-access VNC server set up (running UltraVNC server). My current Android VNC app, called, funnily enough androidVNC will only accept IP addresses to connect to. This is fine when using it inside the home, but as I want to access it from outside, my external IP address is dynamic, so when I save the settings one day it may be different the next day.

I have a domain, home.example.co.uk that is set up for the web server also running on that machine. If I open the ports in my home router, how can I connect via the server hostname (home.example.co.uk:5900, or similar)? If it requires a new VNC client, so be it.

Android VNC viewer is free and works with host names, but I have not played around with it much, so I cannot vouch for quality. Alternatively you could use a hostname to ip resolver (either as an app or as a website) to find out the ip address and use that to connect. I just tried out DNS Lookup from the Android market, and it looks like a pretty decent solution (fast, long-press to copy ip).

Instead of exposing your VNC server to the internet, consider using a VPN. This would secure and encrypt your remote connection. And as a side-benefit, you could save the internal IP address in your Android VNC client.

The UltraVNC "Authentication rejected" message means you can contact the remote computer, but the connection is rejected due to a wrong password. This post will discuss how to fix this problem. Please keep reading.

Sometimes you set a server login password but face UltraVNC viewer authentication rejected, mainly because you choose to install the service during the installation, and the password cannot be written into ultravnc.ini. Therefore, the password you entered will be detected as a wrong password. In this case, you need to reset the password to resolve the issue.

UltraVNC has DiskStation Manager (DSM) encryption, allowing viewers and servers to establish a secure communication connection while protecting against illegal access. But occasionally, the security firm reports that more than 20 security flaws have been found in UltraVNC, raising concerns about system security.

UltraVNC is not a handy remote access solution. To use UltraVNC, you need to have some network skills because it requires a complex set on its server side, and you must configure a static IP address for unattended access. Besides, you need to perform router port forwarding on the serverand change the firewall settings.

AnyViewer is very simple to use with an intuitive interface. You only need to create an account to log in, and then you can start unattended remote access with one click. Besides, AnyViewer allows connections over the Internet without VPN or port forwarding.

In short, UltraVNC is not ideal for basic use and could be complicated for most people. If you want to connect to your personal computer when away, deploy remote access in your company, or offer remote support to others, AnyViewer could be better. You can flexibly choose a plan that fits your needs most.

Now you can control the remote computer as if sitting in front of it.There are many considerate options in the upper toolbar. For example, you can transfer files, chat with your partner, hide the wallpaper, change the screen resolution, etc.

This post introduced how to fix UltraVNC authentication rejected. You can reset the password with the instructions and try reaccessing your remote computer. If it still does not work, we recommend you use an UltraVNC alternative, for instance, AnyViewer, that allows you to start a remote session without errors conveniently.

I've been researching quite a bit on unicenta as a native Android or iOS
(iPad) app, but the best answer that I got was that it is in development. But
that answer was given last year. So whatever the current status might be, this
I believe is the best & most elegant way to run unicenta locally (or remotely
if you wish) in a restaurant premise using an Android tablet.

The resolution will scale down to a maximum of 1280x720 maximum (Unicenta tip: I find that everything scales perfectly if you use Administrator account and in Maintenance>Resources>Ticket.buttons and add in this value:

As long as you have a stable & fast wireless network between the pc and
tablet, taking orders conveniently using off-the-shelf mobile tablet from
anywhere is a dream come true. At least for me it is :)

Hope it helps you as much as it has helped me. FYI my sister has just opened a
small local bakery and mexican food restaurant-cafe called
Pastel somewhere in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and it's my
first time setting up a POS system (with an intergrated video+audio player
hehe). Do come by whenever you're in town!

The Main Reason is: uniCenta oPOS runs great on a wide-range of Android iPad,
and any other device you like that has Remote Access capability - and most
have - running just like a native app' .

From a development point of view that means there is no need to fuss with
separate and individual Operating Systems; Development languages; screen
sizes; data synchronisation; device security etc & etc.

It is good to be able to access via tablet. However, with the above setup if you are running a store or restaurant, it's not much use, unless tablet can be run simultaneously with the desktop. Is there a way to run tablet and PC side by side? A person is doing the cashier work (POS-PC) while another is taking order (tablet).

I like the idea of the tablets being used for one, I like that I can take a tablet around the store and have unicenta running on it-conttected to the database in the store, then scanning the item right there and adding the count to inventory rather than carry and big box, pile up stock, take them all the way back to the computer, put them in, them haul all of it back off... Saves a ton of back and forth.

Customers have a question if an item is on hand? Pull it up from where you stand rather than tell them to stay where they are while you walk 2 miles back the other way. I mean walmart don't have this type capability and unicenta provides it. Sometimes you have to go beyond the corners of the box and learn that you are not using propriatary software anymore or working with confusing locked out systems.

Interesting..running with virtual box. From my understanding, virtual box will create a 2nd PC in the PC. That means you need to install another OS in it. That you will need a good hardware. Secondly, if to run uniCentra on the virtual PC, it has to connect to the database of the default(real) PC, can it be done? What I know is they (real and virtual PC) run independently.

Of course there are limitations to multiple instances of an app' running using this approach though it does, at least, provide mobility where this is a need for a single user.
There are some small tweaks you can make to the whole experience better/less intrusive when a user needs to make the switch between mobile and fixed-terminal operation.

As for shared DB between these, that's relatively simple; point the uniCenta oPOS Database to a valid URL - that can be either internally or externally reachable.
Externally; some months ago I connected uniCenta oPOS to a Cloud MySQLDB (xeround.com) and found it was OK. There was a little bit of speed/response slippage, but overall it worked fine.

For those not afraid of linux and some tinkering there are two other options, one is OpenVZ - a virtualization solution with extreamly low overhead and as a second solution a multiseat linux configuration no overhead but a bit more complicated setup.

3.) for restaurants, it would enable order entry AT THE TABLE, even if you had to have a networked printer, or card slider, it would still boost ticket times, and you wouldn't have to have a slew of virtual machines running to accomodate a whole crew of tablets on the backend, you'd just need tablets, and a server, and the server could do extra duty as register, printer, and card slider.
