Hi all,

last year I broke my only pair of glasses and in desperation found
this group. Bought a pair of glasses from Zenni which I've been using
whenever I have to do something involving risk of damage, but bought a
pair of (expen$ive!) hingeless Silhouettes from my local optometrist.
Today I was cleaning them and noticed that it appears that the right
lens of the Silhouettes is actually cracking around the two posts
where the temple attaches to the lens! Of course I will be in touch
with the store to see about getting a replacement lens, but this has
made me realize that I really love the Silhouettes, and if I had to
wear my other glasses, which are, to be fair, perfectly adequate, I'd
still feel like I was downgrading.

So... the question. Do any of the online retailers sell a decent
knockoff Silhouette style? Maybe some new sunglasses are in order...
my old sunglasses are due for at least relensing, but something
lighter would be very nice.

thanks

nate

Most of the online retailers offer a wide selection of rimless styles, some of which are near knockoffs of Silhouettes, including the hingeless variety.

Go to any of their sites, and they're proudly listed, usually on the first page or two.

I've heard good things, on the list, about the hingless offerings from EBD, O4L, and Zenni.  I ordinarily recommend Zenni, but with the issues they seem to be having...you might consider looking elsewhere for the time being.

A shame, since Zenni is my favorite site.

Hello Nate,

I looked at the Silhouettes and, I think all the sites provide
knockoffs of them.
Try looking at Optical4Less. It is my favorite retailer and I think
they do a good job. ^^

Regards,
Elgin.

yes, that's exactly what I'm thinking of. Has anyone ordered a pair
of them and are there any downsides to them (other than the same ones
that would apply to real Silhouettes?) Price looks reasonable
enough...

thanks,

Nate

I bought these http://www.myopticalshop.com/product.php?productid=16&cat=5&page=1
I even asked them to use a different shape lens that I found at
another optical shop, because I didn't like any of their choices. I
also asked them to change the dimensions slightly for the shape I
wanted, because I like a bigger lens.

Top notch glasses, top notch service. Decent prices. Email them any
question you want, they are very responsive. Also check out their
rating on e-bay, seller: max_focus. http://myworld.ebay.com/max_focus/

I finally had time to configure what I wanted on their web site to see
how much it would cost me, can't figure out how to select just a
regular tinted lens, only photochromic - does O4L not do lens
tinting? Or they won't do it on rimless for some reason?

They do it on rimless - you have to select one of the non-photochromic
types, and click through to the option *after* photochromic lenses.
(Their ordering process isn't great...!)

I don't remember whether they do tinting on polycarbs, but they
definitely do on 1.57 and 1.67 index CR39.
