I bought a pair of Amalfi frames from 39dollarglasses and am having a
problem with the nose pads. They leave red marks, which do go away
after I take them off, and I've now got a blister on the left side of
my nose which is my stronger lens(-3.50 as opposed to -2.50). I've
found info on how to adjust them but that doesn't seem to help. The
frame has an 18 bridge like a previous comfortable pair of plastic
glasses I had.

I switched out the nosepads for silicone and that hasn't helped much.
I've never worn a nose pad metal frame before, so I don't know if the
frame is the wrong size, the pads are out of adjustment, or I'm just
someone who can't wear a nose pad frame. Some of the online research
I've done has told me that is possible.

Not sure what else to do.

Changing the nose pads can help...they are available in a number of sizes, so a larger size might spread the weight around a bit more.  It doesn't sound like it's a materials issue, but is instead a pressure issue, especially since the silicone (hypoallergenic) didn't fix it.

Try larger nose pads to spread the load...and try asking a local eyeglass dispensary for help.  They may know a few "tricks" that would help.  There is even a full bridge that attaches to the nose pad mount, that spreads the load even more.

Thanks for the advice. I know a place online where I can order
nosepads so maybe I'll do that. I recently bought a pair of glasses
from EyeBuyDirect to be my "pair of last resort," just in case my 2
regular pairs get broken. I know it sounds paranoid, but after my
wife had a pair of high index lenses scratched by the staff of an
optometrist office, I guess I'm more cautious. That pair has larger
nosepads and Cr39 lenses, so it'll probably be heavier than what I got
from 39dollarglasses. If those don't leave marks, perhaps larger
nosepads are in order.

Just run by your local WalMart, and ask for some nose pads.  If they charge you at all, it should be no more than about $2 for a couple of sets.

OR, go to a real optometrist (not a chain) and ask for a little bit of help.  Those guys almost always behave very professionally.  While there are many professionals working at chains, it can be a hit-or-miss proposition at the chain stores.

I can get 5 pairs for $8.95 from this online vendor so that is what I
do.

As for going to a real optometrist not a chain, I tried one recently
and basically got the shortest eye exam I ever had and a contact lens
prescription that was off.

I did better with the optometrist at WalMart in terms of my
prescription. The optometrist there is good, just the people who
handle the glasses end of it aren't very knowledgeable, which is why I
go online for them. I also order my own contacts now because if you
get them from WalMart, they just order from1800Contacts, something I
could do myself. I go to ibuylens.com because they are much cheaper.

Hopefully, I can get my nosepad issue resolved soon.

I put larger nosepads on the glasses and it has helped, but still get
a red mark on my left side. I wonder if my skin could be sensitive on
that side of my nose. My nose isn't quite the same shape on both
sides, that could be part of it too. I've never worn a nosepad frame
before, so I may not be adjusted just yet. I'm hoping this will solve
my problem.

It sounds like the left nose pad is leaning harder on your nose. The
metal pieces that hold the nose pads can be adjusted a bit to leave a
wider or narrower space between them. This can relieve the discomfort,
as well as making both sides of the frame the same height, so that
they don't look crooked on your face.

I don't normally shop at Walmart, but it was the only store where I
easily found silicone nosepads, and for a low price.

I got mine from an online store called nosepadsplus.com, which sells
all sorts of optical supplies. Since 39dollarglasses.com sent me a
little glasses screwdriver with my order, I had what I needed to
replace them. It's delicate work, but not difficult.

I'm not sure I trust Walmart with my glasses, after my wife had a bad
experience with them when the promised her high index lenses and when
she got them, they were coke bottles.

So far, the new, larger, D shaped nose pads, as opposed to the oval
ones that were standard, appear to be working.

I got another pair of glasses with nosepad frames, 18 bridge size just
like the previous ones. The nosepads are a little larger, but I still
have the problem with get some irritation on the left side of my
nose. I wonder if I should have gone with a wider bridge frame, or
perhaps the problem is some sensitivity on one side of my nose. I've
previously worn plastic frames with an 18 bridge and they worked
fine. I have tried adjusting the space between them and the angle,
but that hasn't helpd much.

Not sure what else to do.

I do appreciate that you had a bad experience at an optical center, but GO TO AN OPTICAL DISPENSARY!  They're trained to know what to do in these situations.  They may or may not charge you.  If they don't, offer to pay them for their time.  They are professionals, and performed work for you.

I know that you're afraid to let them anywhere near your glasses, so it might help if you just called one, told them what is going on, and asked for a suggestion.

You've said it yourself...these are your first nosepad glasses, and you genuinely don't know how they're supposed to fit.  How can you adjust them to fit correctly, if you don't know what it means to have them fit?

Do you know anyone who could recommend a good dispensary that's local to you?  I found two well-established (old) dispensaries in my area that are very good at adjustments, but I'm in Texas.
