I have a RX from a family member that wears progressive lenses, but on
has ADD +2.50 in one eye. Do i order "Reading glasses", or progressive
lenses. All of the sites listed on the glassy eyes blog will not allow
only one ADD, but require two. There is no option for that part to
remain Plano.

The Add will apply to both eyes. If you want readers then sum the
sphere and add values to get the reading sphere. If you need distance
then use the sphere, cylinder and axes values given on the
prescription, ignoring the Add. If you want progressive then provide
the sphere, cyl and axes values for each eye and the Add value.
Progressive lenses are very intolerant of poor lens location. Looking
straight ahead should use the distance portion of the lens, looking
down uses the reading part. In between the two there is a narrow
"corridor" that progressively moves between them. If this corridor is
not right in front of the eye then the wearer sees a distance lens, an
area of blur and then a reading lens, which is pretty hard to adjust
too. Also if the lens is to high in the frame then the wearer will
only be able to see into the distance by tilting their head down and
looking through the top portion of the lens. Great for plane spotters
but not for anyone else!

Since your requirements are not exactly what we would call ordinary
(as evidenced by the lack of this option on the online forms) then I
would suggest you call one of the retailers and explain what you need.
Most of them have telephone numbers...use it at opening time. Zenni,
for example, is best reached within 1 minute of opening time...they
get busy, really fast.

James, you left out the PD.
For Progressive lenses the thing to get them right.
I ordered several pairs of progressives and they are all spot on
fantastic!

Ana,
ADD is always (of course, I'm sure there are always exceptions) the
same for Left and Right. Sometimes they mention it only once on your
prescription.
To illustrate: For my prescription I need ADD 2.25 to be able to read.
Since I have got R +4.00 (amblyoptic) and L + 1.75 I actually should
only need an ADD in my L lens, since +4.00 is in my case fine for
reading anyway.
But since ordering two progressive lenses online is still cheaper than
buying them at a highway shop, I'm still more than happy to pay for
the two of them.
By the way, my glassless friends who say they are glad they have no
need for glasses, (hahahah) are always grateful to me, when they can
borrow my glasses to read the menu in a restaurant..... So a social
function for them as well.
