I have bought at least over half a dozen pairs of glasses from
Goggles4U this year with one pair of tinted sunglasses giving double
vision which was replaced.

I just received another 3 pairs today, one semi-rimless varifocal, 1
rimless regular vision and 1 rimless tinted sunglasses.

The semi-rimless varifocal gave double vision and there was black dirt
all around the nylon retainer string, I have contacted their CSR and
awaiting their response. This is the second pair of glasses that has
given double vision and yes this was on two different separate
prescriptions for two different persons. I believe they have a
problem and they should really look into it since I have never
experienced the double vision problem with any other online vendor for
glasses for myself or anyone else.

I was disappointed with the workmanship of the two other pairs of
regular vision rimless. First thing I noticed the pair of sunglasses
was that there was some sort of adhesive like Crazy glue oozing from
the metal nose bridge onto the lens drying to a whitish halo(Crazy
glue dries to a white halo when dried in high humidity) and then there
was a finger smudge of the adhesive on the top of the polished rim of
the lens. The nose pads were so ill bent I had to rebend them
straight myself. As well I can see white powder residue in the
drilled holes for the nose bridge and the temple arms.

The other pair of regular vision rimless was even worse, I noticed
that the nose bridge holes on the left lens was drilled 2mm higher
than the right lens making the glasses look uneven and they tried to
force the nose bridge pads to be even so the glasses would not sit
flop sided on the nose.

All in all, this has been a disappointing experience with them on
this order where all 3 pairs of glasses turned out to be worse than
expected from a vendor that I normally praise.

EdT,

It definitely sounds like there are quality control issues at G4U.
Thanks for posting such a detailed description.

Don't you reckon that using glasses with real frames would circumvent
all these issues?

It would, but why offer rimless if they can't produce them properly
and then again their double vision problem exist through out whether
they are semi-rimless or not !

That is true; quality control that fails can fail pretty much
anywhere.

I wonder whether the double-vision thing is just from having lenses
that aren't aligned with each other (basically, a bent bridge) or
rather some optical problem with the lenses themselves. Consider
aligning them yourself-- gently-- before you give up on them.

When I get glasses with flat base curves, I tweak them until they give
me identical reflections of distant objects when I look at them. With
curved lenses, I tweak them until the reflections in the lenses behave
as though they come from the same continuous surface-- that is, as if
the two lenses were parts of the same single lens in the way that a
reflection rolls across them. This method allows me to align the
lenses to within a small fraction of a degree. (The technique might
not work for plus prescriptions.)

I have to touch up the alignment periodically due to wear and tear,
the same way I have to reset my nose pads once in a while, or bend the
temples back in because they have spread out a bit.

I tried ordering a pair of tinted glasses from Goggles4u earlier in
the year. The first pair had double vision, that was the first time I
had experienced such a thing. I reported it to them and right away
they told me to pick out a new frame and gave me a coupon code to
cover the price. I ordered a new pair and got them, and they also had
double vision. I probably should have gone back to them again to fix
it, but I didn't. Instead I just took it as a $45 loss and decided I
would not be ordering from them any more if I can help it. I
eventually ordered a pair from 39dollarglasses (which came untinted,
but was remedied eventually). The glasses from Goggles4u had metal
frames. I almost always order rimless glasses, but I've never had this
issue with any other vendor or glasses, 39dollar, optical4less,
eyebuydirect, zenni.

Good to know that others are having this same problem with Googles4U
infamous double vision syndrome. I know it is not a coincidence after
having ordering so many pairs of online glasses elsewhere and only
Googles4U's glasses have this problem on and off, I think they are
doing something wrong in their lab !

I think I figured out why GogglesU4 is screwing up.

I took two pairs from my collection(yes I said collection ! ...LoL) of
double vision glasses from Googles4U and remove the lens from the
frame in order to move them until the double vision would merge into
single vision and low and behold the second the lens touched each
other they became single vision, meaning the lab technician that
grounded these lens never added the length of the nose temple into the
calculations. I tried this again with the second pair and the same
thing happened.

I then got hold of my latest pair with double vision from Googles4U
and compared it to a good old pair with similar lens dimensions and I
had my answer was right there, the focal point of the good pairs was
closer to the nose bridge and the lens thickness was thinner as well
and all the ones with double vision from Goggles4U where centered on
the lens with equal edge thickness on both ends.

I mean how many times can they screw up and not catch on ?

Follow up on my replacement order. It has been 16 days since it was
placed and the it still shows the status as "In Production"

Contacted their CSR yesterday and they said hopefully they can ship
within 24-48 hours. I contacted them again today and another CSR
gave me another story that their QC rejected it and they have to start
all over and ship it ASAP ! ...I don't know what/who to believe
anymore from Goggles4U !

Last update on this misadventure with Googles4U.

So exactly 4 weeks later after my replacement order was placed, I
received the glasses today, the moment I looked at the focal points
on the lens I knew they would be no good AGAIN !, put them on and
again the produce double vision.

This is supposedly after the QC went through another try and this why
it took them over 3 weeks before they can ship the order.

I contact Mike and asked for refund, he agreed if I mailed the two
pairs back to their lab in Pakistan. Even with $20 postage I would
still be able to get the difference back instead of having two useless
pairs !

My confidence in Googles4U is currently diminished even though their
CSR is great.
