Hello,

I'm thinking about ordering a prescription photochromic glasses
(single vision) from gogles4u. Have anyone ordered this type of lenses
from goggles4u before? I have never ordered any glasses online but I
really want to try ordering either tinted or photochromic glasses
online.

Also, for those who have photochromic glasses, do you drive with them?
I heard that they are not good for driving in daytime because the
lenses won't change color inside the car. Is that true?

Last but not least, how is the quality of the glasses you get from
goggles4u?

Thank you for your help!

Photochromic lenses change in direct proportion to the UV present.
Since car windshields contain a UV blocker, they respond considerably
less, when inside the car.

There is another variety called Drivewear, which consists of several
coatings, one of which reacts to light, rather than UV...but I've not
seen them in person. There have been limited discussions about these
lenses, on the forum, but what little information there is, should be
in the archives.

If it was me, I'd get photochromics put into a frame that has a
magnetic clip on. That way you get the best of both worlds.

Thanks for your fast reply!

Yeah I searched that in the forum too. But it seems that there are not
many people mentioned the photochromic lenses.

The magnetic clip on is a very good idea! But are they easy to use (I
haven't used this kind before)? Currently I have a pair of clip on
(not magnetic) for my old glasses (thats the only one I could find at
Walmart and were not that good) and a pair of fit-over sunglasses (an
old bulky style but work pretty good). I got those because I couldn't
afford the expensive glasses at the optometrist. Even with an
insurance covered for $120, I still had to pay so much extra! Not to
say that I was NOT looking for designer brand glasses :( .

So I'm glad to find this forum. I would really like to try to buy a
pair of glasses online. I just want to know more first. So I found
that goggles4u has a pretty good selection and is pretty cheap. I just
wonder if it is good to order tinted/ photochromic lenses from them.

Any more suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Hi!
I wear Transitions and love them!  Yes, it is true that when driving, my glasses are not as dark, but they are darker than when I am indoors.  It doesn't bother me.  I'd rather deal with that then have to worry about keeping up with 2 pairs of glasses.

I've never ordered photochromatics but I have ordered from Goggles4u and always been pleased with the experience and end result.
Expect the glasses to take possibly as long as 4 to 5 weeks to arrive after ordering though.

I have ordered photochromic single vision glasses from Goggles4u.
They aren't that bad although it took them two times to get it right.
The tint is nice and they are pretty quick to turn dark. I'll say this
about Goggles4u quality, they can do a good job. I love the frames I
got from them and the lenses are good. My only complaint is small
things. My rimless have a little nick in the lens but it's not that
bad and my semi rimless have a small chip in them. The only major
mistake they did was put the wrong prescription in my photochromic but
they sent me a new pair on the house so I'm happy. Really, you can't
go wrong with Goggles4u.

As for the car, Chuck is correct, they don't work behind the wheel. I
am planning on purchasing a pair of drivewares from $39 Glasses soon.
You can't go wrong with photochromic for outdoor use.

A pair of photochromics from Goggles4U was one of the first two pairs
I ordered. If you use only microfiber cloths to clean them, they'll
last you. I had to replace my lenses about a year after I got them,
but that was due to a break and not the coating. I replaced them with
genuine Transitions from 39$ and they're better (faster, etc...) but
the original lenses were good too.

BTW, they're the frames at the top batter of the site.

And yes, they're as useless as regular lenses behind a windshield.
That's the reason I have at least two pairs of prescription sunglasses
in each car and one in my laptop bag.

Once you start wearing sunglasses, you'll wonder how the hell you ever
managed without them.

Wm. Lewis,

Thanks for your reply. It seems like goggles4u is not too bad after
all. I think I'll give it a try.

TujuMaster,

Great to hear from someone who ordered photochromic single vision
glasses from Goggles4u! From your description, it seems like the
quality is not too bad. About the driving part, yes I think I may keep
using my big fit-overs glasses that I keep in the car (I won't wear
them outside the car and they work good so I think it is ok) :P. The
reason why I want a pair of photochromic glasses is that right now I'm
carrying 2 pairs of glasses around. One is the regular non-
prescription sunglasses. Well I am not seriously short-sighted and I
can't afford/ don't want to pay for the expensive RX sunglasses at the
optometrist. So now I just deal with seeing things a little blurry
with my regular sunglasses. And so I also carry another pair of
prescription clear lenses glasses. Now if I can have a pair of
photochromic prescription glasses, then I won't have to carry 2
glasses, and I will be able to see clearly even when I'm outside. This
seems to be so good! :)

btw, I also have another question about the PD. I tried to measure the
PD many times but it is always between 6.3 to 6.5 cm. Is a little
discrepancy fine? Thanks!
