I am almost ready to get my first eyeglasses on line and was looking
at myopticalshop.com rimless selection. Can't decide if i should get
rimless hingeless or rimless with a hinge (their style # RM003)
Can anybody give the cons and pros on these two very similar
frames.Thanks.

My first online glasses were myopticalshop.com's RM006 - hinged
titanium frameless - in gunmetal gray.

I bought them to replace similar frameless glasses but without hinges
- similar to the infamous silhouette glasses.

One item to note about all these frames from myopticalshop - the
bridge and attachment pieces are titanium but the main arm of the
temples are plastic and can feel weak. It's probably not a big issue
for most people but I don't like the wobbly feeling in hand, although
once wearing them, it's not really noticeable.

Should you get the hinged versus the hingeless? I see little
functional difference between the two except the following: When the
hinged version is folded, it fits more easily into a case, like
traditional glasses. The hingeless frames tend to 'spring' out of
their case and off of desks because the temples act as a spring - not
a big deal but that's how my last pair ended up on the floor and
crunched...

If I could opine a bit, I think the hingeless frame is more elegant
and looks cleaner. The hinged frame can become hyperextended and
pieces that small can really only be so strong. I recommend finding
hingeless frameless frames made of metal, not the plastic ones sold at
MOS.com. The fit and feel is better and I think most people are
happier with such a setup.

A general note about the quality of myopticalshop.com's glasses -
overall, the frames are good quality, perhaps a 6.5 out of 10 - the
worksmanship of the frame attachment has been very solid, after 6
months of usage they've held up well, still very tight, 8.5 out of 10.
The last important item to note would be your prescription and lens
choice. I have a severe prescription at +5.00 with astigmatism -
MOS.com's 1.67 index lens must not be aspheric, as it's about 20%
thicker than my 1.67 Seiko Aspheric (which cost 3x as much).

Let us know how you make out.
