Recently, I have noticed that Zenni is only applying their A/R coating
to one side of the lenses, instead of both as is stated on their
website.
Has anyone here tried to get both sides coated by requesting it in the
special instructions area of the order form?

If I remember right, there have been some comments that their coating
isn't that good anyway. On the assumption that getting the coating
would reduce the useful life of their glasses through premature wear,
I've never ordered the A/R coating from Zenni.

My suggestion is to email Zenni to ask whether it's possible to get
the coating on both sides. I've gotten a couple of questions answered
that way.

I'm about to re-order the same glasses I got about a year ago with a
new prescription. But this time, I'm going to skip the A/R coating, it
scratches too easily. Not just a Zenni issue, I had the same
experience with other coatings too.

I've always had good luck with Zenni and with their A/R coatings.
Several pairs of glasses now and no scratches. I just ordered a set of
progressives for my wife and I put in the comments section "A/R
coating on BOTH sides of lenses." So we'll see...

I did the same as you, powrwrap.
I added in the comments that I want A/R on both sides as is advertised
on their website, and that if they wouldn't honor their own advertised
process for A/R, then they could just cancel my order and refund my
money, as I don't do business with companies that don't honor their
own promises.
It's been 4 days, and no refund yet, so I'm assuming they will follow
through. If not, I'm going to demonstrate what "fast turnaround"
means. ;)

On the topic of A/R coatings: if you're having trouble with smeary
glasses, or having to clean them all the time, leave the coating off.
I found it to be much worse than any reflection problem! It attracted
any sunscreen or moisturizer I wore - I had to keep bottles of cleaner
and cloths anywhere I sat and in the car, and clean my glasses many
times a day.

Which is another reason I'm glad to find out about online glasses
purchasing, because Wal-Mart had made the A/R coatings standard on
almost everything last time I ordered. It's good to have a choice.

Were these their standard lenses, or one of their premium lenses
(e.g., high index, progressive, etc.)?

9654 Aluminum Alloy Half-Rim Frame
Progressives w/photochromic - Standard Strength Lenses

I like the frames, but the bridge seems just a tad too narrow. Maybe
I'll get used to them with time.

I agree with you. I've been wearing my newest Zenni glasses without AR
coating for about a month now and I'm much happier than I was with the
previous pair with A/R. As you said, with the old pair I was always
feeling like the lenses were dirty and needed cleaning all the time
and I never coud clean them completely.

I'm impatiently waiting for my first pair of glasses in 10 years,
which I ordered from Zenni 17 days ago. I discovered this group and
I'm helping to pass the time by reading your posts - thank you all...

Anyway, I've been reading this thread with interest, since I've
ordered progressive/photochromic leses with AR coating - #4978. This
discussion scared me until I found this from allaboutvision.com:

"With sunglass lenses, an AR coating is better applied only to
the back surface of the lens (the surface nearest the eye). Because
sunglass lenses are so dark, the AR coating can wind up looking smeary
on the front surface. Coating the back side helps reduce the
reflections of light that enter from behind you and bounce off the
surface into your eyes. A back-side coated sun lens is much more
comfortable than an uncoated sunglass."

So I can now let the Zenni professionals do what they do best - make
great specs - and I will continue to count the days...

Thanks again for a very informative group of postings.
