I am living in the Netherlands, and I would like to share my
experience with Zenni Optical.
Last year I had my eyes examined and got myself new multi focal
glasses. My insurance pays 75% of the cost of glasses once per 3
years, but I still paid appr. 250 Euro (they threw in free
prescription sun glasses, distance only). I wanted some "mono" glasses
for reading, computer work, and distance (driving).
I chose Zenni Optical and chose 3 pairs of glasses, 2 of the cheapest
($8), and one of $12.95 with AR and clip-on added. With my
measurements it was easy to choose and order, total about $40 (shipped
from Hong Kong).
My first order was denied since the billing address of my credit card
did not match the delivery address. I used to live in the USA, used an
US credit card and indeed the billing address had not been updated. I
changed that to my NL address (and was happy to find this out).
I re-ordered Jan. 17, got an email that the order was processed Jan.
24, an email with shipment notification Feb. 3, with a tracking #. On
the Hong Kong mail web site I could check that the package left Hong
Kong Feb. 9. The Dutch mail tried to deliver Feb. 14, I picked it up
myself Feb. 15.
The three pairs were each in a hard plastic case, with their own
microfiber tissue. The cases were together in a bubble wrap envelope.
The hard case is OK, if you have old metal cases laying around you may
prefer those. The glasses are imho excellent. I have used them for
about a month and am very pleased. I cycle to work and prefer the
distance glasses to the multi focal ones for this. Just a bit more
complete vision. The reading glasses are more comfortable when reading
in bed.
I did not pay additional tax or duties. I think that depends on the
value of the package; it may be that a larger order will pass through
customs and will require VAT payment.
