I am, unfortunately, a man with a large head and chubby face. I was
going to pay the usual $300-$500 or more for a pair of glasses until I
happened upon this group. Thanks to the information I have learned
here, I know my PD is 69, and I know basically what I need:

Lens width: 55 or higher (actually between 57 and 59 would be ideal)
Bridge: 19-20
Temple: 145 minimun (although 150 would be even better)

I started looking at glasses on the various sites, and was dismayed to
learn that the frames on these sites come in only one size, and it was
not in the size that I need. I went through several pairs of glasses
which was very frustrating and time-consuming. What am I doing
wrong? Am I destined to have to pay full retail price because I don't
have a small face? Why don't these discount sites customize the
frames and lenses based on your unique measurements? Help, please!
Where do I need to look to find large/wide frames and lenses that are
attractive?

While I'm not chubby, I require 145mm temple arms or longer. Most
online stores don't have many glasses with temple arms longer than
140mm, but Zenni does.

Go to www.zennioptical.com and type 145mm (no space between number and
mm) in the "Search for Frames" box (located in left hand column below
Eyeglass Categories.) That will pull up some large frames. Then type
in 146mm. Then 147mm. Then try 148mm. Then 149mm. etc.

Here's one that has 57mm wide lenses, 148mm arms, 19mm bridge:

Also, you can buy lenses for any rimless frames that are 54mm and 55mm
wide.

I have in the past worn immense frames also, and when I first started
looking for cheaper alternatives online was unable to find the *really
big* frames I was used to wearing. The ones that make me look like a
90 year old senior citizen from Miami, in retrospect.

The different sites have various ways of narrowing things down. With
Zenni, for example, look at how they state the mesurement in the frame
descriptions (eg., "Lens Width 51mm"). Paste that into the search
field and change the 51 to 55 and it will find all the glasses with a
lens width of 55mm. You can't narrow down the search results, but you
can get things to a manageable group. Searching on "Temple Arm Length
140mm" found these, for example:
http://www.zennioptical.com/cart/product.php?productid=451&cat=0&page=1
which seem to meet your criteria.

Other sites have different tools (or no tools). Optical4less lets you
choose a frame material, then filter the results by various dimensions
(lens width, bridge width, etc.). Goggled4u Lets you search by a large
array of parameters, including dimensions, material, color, etc.

But you're right showing a single frame in a variety of sizes is not
usual with online opticians. Rather, each frame in its unique size is
shown as a separate item on most sites, although sometimes the same
frame in different sizes is actually available - it's just that each
size is its own catalog number or SKU, so you often don't realize that
they're the same style.

As an aside, I have discovered that despite my giant Irish head, now
that I have less hair I think I look better with smaller frames, and
the low prices of these glasses let me buy multiple pairs of single-
vision specialty glasses instead of having one pair of giant Mr Magoos
for all occasions. I have single-vision computer glasses next to my
computers at home and at work. I have an attractive single-vision pair
for distance only that I wear when we go out to concerts or movies. My
favorites are the rimless titanium progressives I got from Zenni, that
are almost invisible on my face, rendering the whole "size" issue
moot. When I started wearing them people thought I'd gotten a face-
lift. :)

Optical4less hingeless have 150mm temples. As they are frameless, all
other parameters are customizable.-
I have a pair. Good glasses, but you have to get used to hingeless
which I had never used before. Not suitable for sports, playing with
kids or for rough movements in general since they do not sit as firmly
on your face as regular frames.-

I don't know about the other shops but I do know at O4L you can
customize any size you want but are limited to a specific selection of
glasses. Of course you could always order fully customized glasses.
For example, the rimless eyeglasses selection at Optical4Less allows
you to choose any size you want for almost all of the seelctions
there.
See for yourself ^^ http://www.optical4less.com/rimless-eyeglasses/
Just be sure to measure correctly and input it correctly. If you do
make a mistake, you can always contact customer support which I know
are really helpful and friendly.
You can also check out the other glasses and look at their width etc
measurements and I am sure there is one that fits your head.

Good luck!
Elgin.

Zenni 4552 Metal Alloy Full-Rim Frame with Spring Hinges

Lens Width 54mm, Height 32mm, Bridge 17mm
Frame Width 145mm, Temple Arm Length 140mm

My husband had some expensive glasses that were 150mm. He has a wider
head. I ordered these from Zenni and they look Great! He wants me to
reorder them in the other available frame colors. If he lets me take
his pic I will... but can be doubtul at times :) These don't have
quite as much lens width as you were looking for but they are very
flattering and the overall width is right on.

Good luck,
