I've ordered a pair of bifocals from eyebuydirect.com. Although I
haven't received them yet (they don't offer package tracking on the
cheaper shipping option), I can tell you one thing: They don't answer
e-mail communications. It's like shouting into a well. If I don't
get the glasses soon, I'll try calling them.

OK, today they answered their email. Hopefully, I'll be getting my
glasses this week, so I'll post again when they come.

I ordered from eyebuydirect back in December, the rimless classes I
chose took about two weeks for delivery but when they arrived I was
very happy. the total price for the glasses was just under $90 for the
"Horizon" frames, high index glass, all of the coatings, and no tint
or transitions. All in all I was very happy until last week when I
bumped them with a pillow (while making the bed) and the left lens
snapped in half. I called them to ask about this (I left a message
and they returned my phone call the next day) and they explained that
the return policy was only 10 days and that my only option was to buy
a new pair, they did offer me a 5% discount and "Free UV coating".
Anyway, it may have been a mistake but I ordered again, I'll let you
all know how they come out.

You bumped them with a pillow? And the lens cracked in half?

I realize that margins are small in this line of business, but that's just plain short-sightedness (no pun intended).

If I'm running the place and a defect like that appears, I'm sending a new pair out -- gratis. Ten days is too short -- especially for obvious defects.

I ordered the 110-Grey frame with the anti-reflective and uv coating
options w/ the standard 1.5 lens on 10/06/2007. I received the frame
on 10/10/2007 (I live in VA and the address on the box was MD. Very
surprised to have a local online eyeglass company). The frames have
spring hinges, appear to be aluminum (as advertised), appear to be
very good quality and the lenses were perfect. However, I received
the Brown version of the frame (the frame comes in two colors). After
contacting EBD by email, I discovered that the frames do not have any
distinguishing model numbers and I should have entered Grey in the
remarks section of the order form (this isn't explained when ordering)
even though I selected the picture of the Grey frame when ordering.
EB offered to refund the shipping cost. Anyway, everybody
complimented me on the Brown frames so I decided to keep them and
tried to order the Grey frames again with the 1.57 lens option (this
time I out Grey in the remarks section). I ordered the 2nd pair on
10/13/2007 and received them on 10/17/2007 (once again, FAST
turnaround!). Once gain, however, I received the Brown frame. Once
again, the frame and lenses were as expected, but the difference
between the 1.5 & 1.57 lenses was almost unnoticable (save $ and do
not get the 1.57 lenses). I emailed EDB on 10/20/2007 explaining what
happened and stated that I would be returning the 2nd order for a FULL
refund, but that I really wanted the Grey frames and how can I get
them (entering Grey in the remarks section of the order form was
obviously useless). I never received a reply to my email. I also
decided to keep the 2nd pair, since the 1.57 lenses appeared to be
lighter and my skin didn't feel indented by the frame (this could be
more psychological than actual though). I'll use the 1st pair as a
spare. Well, much to my surprise, today on 10/27/2007 I received a
package from EBD. I was very happy while I was opening the package
thinking that my Grey frame had finally arrived, but alas, it was not
to be, EBD sent me the same 110-Brown frame that they sent me the
previous 2 times. It does appear that the lenses are now thinner (1.6
perhaps) than the first 2 pairs, but it's hard to be sure. I going to
keep this third pair, although I didn't order it, as compensation for
my inconvenience and because I shouldn't have to spend money on
shipping to return frames that I did not order anyway. EBD also never
did not credit my credit card with the shipping charge for the 1st
frame as they stated. Even though EBD messed up, I will order from
them in the future. The frames and lenses were as advertised and they
seem to be customer-oriented--in their own way--and tried to fix their
gaffe. Of course, if the fames they sent were totally different
frames and not just a different color, I probably wouldn't recommend
them.

I ordered computer glasses (by modifying my bi-focal script) on Dec
22, 07. Rec'd them on Jan 8,08, which is not bad, considering the
Christmas rush, HOWEVER- this Co. is listed as being in Maryland,
which was one reason for my ordering from them. Well, the pkg. came
from EyeBuyDirect Shipping Dept, Lombard Ct, Santa Rosa, Calif, and
sent USPS Priority Mail on Jan 4. The glasses are exactly what I
ordered, and do the job for me, so this is NOT a complaint. It is
though, asking the question--where were my glasses actually made??
Seems like maybe overseas, then re-shipped from Calif. Anyone have
comments on this? EyeBuyDirect??

I tried to order from EBD on Feb 17. Because my prescription is a
strong minus one with an unusual cylinder correction in my left eye (-.
87x140) and I need progressive lenses I email them my prescription on
Feb 15 (initial contact with them) to ask if it could be made in a
photochromatic progressive lens or a plain progressive.. After a
series of emails I was told it could be made in either so I ordered
photochromatic brown progressives.. I received an email from them on
Feb 18 stating that my order was on hold. Here is the actual email I
received.

"Welcome to EyeBuyDirect and thank you for your order.

We have received your order, however, we temporarily placed it on hold
because currently, we can only process progressive lenses with
photochromic in gray color. Please inform us if we will process using
photochromic in gray.

Also, because of your very high prescription, we would like to inform
you that we cannot process your order as progressive lenses. We can
process it as single vision lenses.

Please get back to us regarding these concerns."

I promptly called them and they told me that while they can make my
prescription in photochromatic progressives or plain progressives they
are out of stock on the lens blank and could not tell me when they
would be getting it in. They kept trying to push single vision
glasses on me which I have no use for. I told them to refund my
money. They said the money would be refunded to my paypay account
either tomorrow or the next day. We shall see.

Now I am back to square one trying to find who can make my glasses.

Why don't you give Optical4less a try? They claim to be able to do
almost anything. I have recently bought glasses from them and I am
really satisfied with their craftmanship. Like the best I have bought
in brick and mortar shops. Or better. Of course, my glasses are very
simple compared to yours.

I just received the glasses I ordered from EyeBuy today, so I haven't
gotten completely used to them, but they seems pretty good. Very clear
lenses -- the prescription seems just right.

One complaint: the anti-reflective coating is not especially anti-
reflective. Not nearly as good as the Crizal coatings. But hey, it's a
$5 coating, not an $80 one, so I don't mind.

I would likely purchase from EyeBuyDirect again.
