Hi all,

(excuse crosspost, just in case somebody from Edinburgh wanted to come
and isn't subscribed yet; I'll cease and desist crossposting after
this)

I've just booked the venue for our first social meeting this Thursday
2010-09-09.
It's booked under my name (Marco) if you arrive there before I do.

The Pot Still ( http://www.thepotstill.co.uk/ ) in 154 Hope Street,
quite near both Queen St. and Central stations.
Google Maps link:

The website http://glasgow.darkpan.com/ already has all the info,
including mailing list subscription information.

Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday, 5:30pm onwards.

to Glasgow.pm
Hi all,

Does anybody want to post a wee recount of the first Glasgow.pm
meeting we had?

Below, some news and decisions that were made; I'll see to update the
site when I can; patches welcome ;)

- never again shall we meet in a pub that does not sell food
- meetings will be on the day after the second Wednesday of the month
(I will e-mal the list ~7 days in advance, as asked)
- the venue will be one of the S1 meeting rooms, at 200 Renfield
Street (big Herald&Times glass building)
- thanks to S1 for providing the venue!
- meeting should start ~6:00 to ~6:30 pm, if that suits the
Edinburgh.pm people
- {R,P}ing me at 07841538170 if late, so someone can come get you at
the door
- Not necessarily Perl only talks: if you have something good to talk
about, bring it!
- Certainly not web-only talks: after all, Perl's not only for the web
- Let's try though to keep Perl as the topic: advise in advance of the
topic of the non-Perl talk you'd like to do, so maybe somebody else
can deliver a Perl talk on similar subjects on the same day?
- We aim to get at least 2+ talks every month, or else people may not
come if the lone topic isn't interesting for them
- A talk's time should be around ~20 to 30 minutes tops
- We should also have ~5+ lightning talks if enough people have
something to talk about; each should be ~5 to 10 minutes in length,
hard stop at 10 minutes
- Meetings should therefore be ~1 hour to ~2 hours in length,
depending on number of talks
- The Glaswegian "wing" of Drinkers.pm should meet at a designated pub
after the meeting. The chosen pub should be able to serve food!
- No Hangover.pm meetings are scheduled for the next day

Next month's meeting should therefore be Thursday 14th October.
Aaron mentioned he'd bring the talk he gave at YAPC::EU, so we have at
least one talk :)
I have a talk about Perl 5.8.8 -> 5.12.2 I'm finishing, and a couple
lightning talks in my head: one about Mojo{,licious} and another about
managing my App::perlbrew installation using Git.

Many volunteered a lightning talk or two during last meeting; I am
hopeful we will have sufficient talks to pique everybody's interest.

Looking forward to next month's meeting,

Hey ;)
I've asked ~3 weeks ago for transferring glasgow.pm.org and at that
time I thought we could just use the Google Groups facility.
You're the second person that mentioned some problems with using
Google Groups (first was Aaron).

If support at pm org replies soonish enough and transfers
glasgow.pm.org I'll see to ask them if they can release access to the
old and unused glasgow.pm list...

I'm not aware though of what problems you have with subscribing to
Google Groups... so I'm not entirely sure if that would be beneficial
for the rest of the group as well...

'till soon
