Subject: Winter Weather Risk Increasing - Briefing to be Scheduled for this Afternoon

All,

The risk for accumulating Freezing Rain and/or Sleet appears to be increasing across extreme SE Arkansas, NE portions of Louisiana, and NW portions of the Mississippi Delta from early Monday morning through Midnight Tuesday morning based on the latest trends.

Cold air has begun to infiltrate the winter weather risk region behind a passing cold front with ongoing moderate rain at this time. This rainfall has compounded with the already saturated soils and resulted in large amounts of street flooding. Flash flood warnings are currently in effect and Areal Flood Warnings will be likely this afternoon given such poor drainage.  This band will progress slowly east through the day and rain will taper off through the evening.

Temperatures will continue top fall through the overnight near 29-32 degree range for the Delta region. Additional precipitation is expected to move back north over these temperatures early tomorrow morning. Temperatures will be tough to rise through the day and complete the potential set-up for 0.1" to 0.25" or possibly more of ice accumulation.

A degree or two warmer or colder could have large effects on the overall impacts.  Please stay up to date for the latest.  As always, feel free to contact the office with any questions or concerns.
