All,
An active set-up will be in place Today through Tuesday with the main concerns of Severe Weather/Flooding Tonight Through early Sunday and then Sleet/Freezing Rain potential Monday into Tuesday.
For the Severe Weather/Flooding:
Strong to Severe storms capable of damaging winds of 60mph and tornadoes, will be possible across Northeast Louisiana, Southeast Arkansas, and Northwest Delta regions of Mississippi this late this evening and through portions of the the overnight. Model consensus is also pointing to a heavy rain axis of 2-3 inches and locally higher amounts running along and Northwest of a Winnsboro, LA to Grenada, MS during this time frame. A Flash Flood Watch is currently in effect for this region.
Reports this morning continue to indicate many areas are still contending with standing water in low-lying areas from the previous 4-7 days worth of rainfall. The high rainfall rates expected with the thunderstorms and additional rainfall totals will nearly certainly cause additional flooding concerns through Sunday Evening given such high soil moisture saturation and exceedingly poor run-off rates. Rainfall rates will decrease thereafter as cold air pushes south but sets the stage for a potential wintry precipitation transition.
Sleet/Freezing Rain Set-up:
The cold airmass will slip into far Northwest Mississippi, Southeast Arkansas, and northern portions of Northeast Louisiana late Sunday and early next week as the front stalls over the region. There is enough confidence in this scenario that freezing rain and/or sleet have been placed into the the official forecast for this area Monday morning through Tuesday morning. Some models indicate a more substantial risk for freezing rain and this trend will be closely monitored.
A live briefing could be scheduled tomorrow based on the trends. As always, feel free to contact the office if you have any questions or concerns. Please see the latest graphics on our homepage showing the highlighted areas and timing for these impacts.
