All,
Conditions continue to indicate a dangerous severe weather set-up through the day today for Central and Southern Mississippi, and Northeast Louisiana and then winter precipitation late tonight/early Wednesday morning across the Delta region of SE Arkansas and NW Mississippi.
Severe Weather Set-up:
The strong and long track tornado risk continues to increase based on latest model indications across Central/Southern Mississippi and Northeast Louisiana for for this afternoon. This risk will be exist along and south of the warm front that will push north through the day. Depending on just how far north the warm front can reach, the tornado risk, and subsequent severe weather risk, could spread farther north and east along I-55 east to the Golden Triangle Region. Damaging straight line winds of 70-80 MPH, hail to the size of half-dollars, and heavy rainfall will also be of concern as multiple rounds of severe storms and a squall line are likely. A Flash Flood Watch will likely be issued for the region later this morning. Please see attached graphics for latest timing and risk areas.
Winter Weather Set-Up:
Cold air with temperatures in the 20s and lower 30s currently reside in northern Arkansas. As the Cold front moves through tonight across SE Arkansas and NW Mississippi, enough moisture should present for a change from rain to a rain/snow mix and then to snow. snow could be moderate at times. Given the recent warm days and the expected wet ground, only a dusting is expected with very little to no accumulation on roadways. Snow should end through Wednesday morning as much colder air filters into the entire region.
- A webinar briefing is not planned for this afternoon at this time. However, feel free to contact us anytime and monitor NWS Chat, updated forecasts, and graphics for the latest information concerning this evolving dangerous severe weather set-up.
