Howdy neighbors!

Just saw a post from City Repair about this year's Village Building
Convergence, May 27- June 5. They are accepting neighborhood
applications- is anyone interested in getting a project together this
year? Maybe tackle that gnarly ivy bed?! (kidding, sort of)

The Glad Stones make me smile every day!

I think it was nice seeing everyone out and about last time for sure.
If we make it happen we'd be into participating for sure.

What would our neighborhood be doing exactly? Is it just cleanup or can it be any sort of improvement for our neighborhood? We should asses the needs of our community first...

what do we need or want to see changed/improved upon?

The gnarly ivy bed sounds like a nice challenge!

I would love to see a STOP sign or something of the sorts put in on 44th and Center. Since the One-Way at Gladstone folks that usually used that to go East bound after work now cruise up Center at top speeds and meander through the neighborhood to get back to Gladstone. Or if you know who I should forward this request to that'd be great.

Amanda - you should contact Kyle Chisek, 503-823-7041, at PBOT. He was
the lead on the Gladstone bike boulevard project and would be able to
help you.

Others
The deadline is passed to submit, but that doesn't really mean much.
Ana and I talked about submitting last week, but don't think we have
the time to dedicate this year. If someone else is interested in being
more of a lead role, we will certainly help out and be a part of the
project. Recall when we submitted last year we hadn't met with anyone
in the hood at that point. It wasn't until February that we had our
first potluck. That resulted in some awesome ideas and lead us to our
first choice of painting the street- which we didn't find out was
impossible until like April. So we pulled our team together and came
up with another awesome idea. I think if we want to do something and
we have people in the hood who are interested, than we should. City
Repair is there for support and can provide some useful resources for
free, so we might as well sign up and just say we don't know what
we're doing yet. They're ok with that.

Any takers? I have the form and will be glad to submit it, but i just
can't be the lead again - and we need at least three names on the form
for core project team....

FYI- Ana and I met with the neighborhood association 2 weeks ago. It
was sort of supposed to be a hand-off of VBC 11 to them because they
showed some interest in continuing the "Gladstone" further down the
street, but they didn't really take it on, they just said, "ok that's
great if you guys want to do this again..." So it looks like it's up
to us.

Thanks
Morgan

Hi all,

Morgan, thanks for the info. I would be willing to help lead a
project, but don't want to do it all by myself, so is anyone else
interested?

In case you weren't at the event last year, the project involved
having neighbors and VBC participants create mosaic "Gladstones" that
are in the planter strips between 39th & 42nd. I like the idea of
extending these down Gladstone! There were also community potlucks, a
mushroom workshop, a community yard sale, a mini-ivy pull...anything
else that I missed?

We just got permission to build some raised garden beds at my
apartments, Gladstone Gardens (appropriately named!). I would love to
do a planting project, maybe in the planting strips, and/or invasive
species removal, and would love to hear what ideas y'all have.

If anyone is interested in getting together to discuss ideas I'm
around next weekend!

Hi All,

Kathryn, thanks for the good energy!!  I'm up for brainstorming this weekend; I try to catch the morning yoga classes (yay Pureheart) but am free after 11 Saturdays and noon Sundays... when is best for you?

And when the time comes, we might consider helping out one of the VBC 2011 sites in our area (I know a woman in Woodstock is planning one).

Cheerio,
Ana
