Happy Friday, Illinois!

It's the last Friday of 2016, and I have one final State Update for you all. In this update, you'll find information regarding an upcoming webinar (FREE, by the way), the link to apply to be a Mid-Level Institute faculty member, and an opportunity to participate in an ACUHO-I research initiative. Additionally, I've left some bits from the last update in case you missed them (submission form for TRENDS articles, a video form the Contemporary Issues Committee, and the application to host an ACUHO-I intern).

All the best,

Webinar Registration:

Please register for Faith and Spirituality: Are We Even Allowed to Be Talking About This? – Part 2 which will occur on January 10, 2017 at 12:00 PM Eastern Time.  After you register, you will receive a confirmation email which will contain information about joining the webinar.

Synopsis:

In this webinar, Rabbi Ilan Schwartz will discuss his journey of working with Jewish students in the realm of higher education and student affairs. Rabbi Ilan will walk us through current barriers that our Jewish students are facing, what is happening in the realm of higher education from the lens of the Jewish community, and how we can support our Jewish students who reside within our halls and houses on campus.

About the Presenter:

Rabbi Ilan Schwartz, the Rabbi/Senior Jewish Educator at the Hillel Ohio State Wexner Jewish Student Center. Rabbi Ilan has been working at The Ohio State University for three years and is working to make a home away from home for his students. Rabbi Ilan works most often with engaging students both on and off campus and provides programming which aligns with Jewish traditions and practices.

The Contemporary Issue for this year is Student Advocacy: Helping Support Students with Dissenting Behaviors. Throughout the year, there will be videos in the State Newsletters designed to acclimate the membership to the topic.

This first video is by Steven Pinker who comments on taboos, political correctness, and dissent. The video is approximately 8 minutes long and is quite thought provoking. After watching the video, please feel free to participate in a discussion on Twitter @glacuho #dissentingbehaviors or on the GLACUHO Facebook page.

This video does not necessarily represent the views of GLACUHO or the Contemporary Issues Committee or it's members. It is designed to promote thought and conversation surrounding the topic of dissent.

Hope all is well Illinois!

Millikin University is looking into updating our commuter student policy. Currently we allow students to live with a parent/guardian within 40 miles of campus. I'm wondering what your college/university has in terms of a commuting policy and if you would be willing to send me a copy of it or a link to your website. I've done some looking and not finding that all of our schools list a specific mileage on the websites.

Thank you all in advance!
