Good morning, Illinois!

Can you believe it's almost the end of APRIL?!? Time is absolutely flying by this year, and your fellow GLACUHO members have been busy making stuff happen. In this update, you'll find all sorts of info -- surveys, book clubs, blog posts, program proposals, and opportunity upon opportunity to get your professional development through GLACUHO.

The most important tidbit might be an opportunity for us here in Illinois. Past president Josh Lawrie invites institutions or groups of institutions to consider preparing a bid for the 2018 conference!!! Please see the details below and discuss the possibilities with your colleagues.

All the best,

Aaron Copley-Spivey

2018 Conference Bids

As you all know, GLACUHO’s Annual Conference is hosted by a dedicated contingent of our membership that volunteer their time, energy and commitment to the association to provide an excellent professional development experience for their colleagues. Since we awarded the honors of hosting our 2017 conference to the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis when we were in Flint in November, it means our hosting cycle now turns to the State of Illinois for 2018!

If your institution has ever considered hosting a GLACUHO conference, or you’d like to know more about what it entails, please consider this an invitation to get in touch with me for a conversation about the bidding process and timeline. We have plenty of resources available that can help guide you as you explore this great opportunity.

To give you a general sense of what the bidding process looks like, here are some of the major dates for you to consider as you begin or continue conversations at your respective institutions:

  • February 15, 2016: Call for Bids is officially released by the Past President
  • March 1 to May 15, 2016: Past President is available for consultation with interested institutions
  • June 1, 2016: Formal letters of intent are due to the Past President from institutions wishing to participate in the bidding process
  • October 3, 2016: Written bid proposals are due to the GLACUHO Tri-Presidents for final consideration
  • November 13, 2016: Bid presentations and GLACUHO Board of Directors vote takes place at the 2016 Annual Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio
  • November 15, 2016: Host institution(s) for the 2018 Annual Conference are announced to the GLACUHO membership

If you would like to set up a conversation to talk about this great opportunity, please send me an email at pastpr...@glacuho.org. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely –
Joshua

The 2016 GLACUHO Summer Book Club!

The Professional Foundations Committee is sponsoring the 2016 GLACUHO Book Club. This year's selection is "Start With Why" by Simon Sinek. A limited number of free copies of the book are available, but all are invited to participate with your own copy of the book.

Here's a synopsis from Sinek's website:

"It doesn't matter what you do, it matters Why you do it." With a little discipline, anyone can learn to inspire. Start With Why offers an unconventional perspective that explains the reasons some leaders and organizations are more innovative, more profitable, command greater loyalties from customers and employees alike and, most importantly, are able to repeat their success over and over.

More information will be available soon so stay tuned!

The GLACUHO Health and Wellness Committee would like to announce the beginning of the 2016 Minutes to Fitness. This initiative is intended to encourage and recognize GLACUHO members for minutes dedicated to fitness by having participants log daily the minutes they dedicated to fitness. This could include a building walk, cleaning your apartment, a run, weight lifting, or even yoga! The purpose of this initiative is to get members moving and grooving!

Once you register, you'll receive a link to the log page via email. Be sure to bookmark this link because we hope you'll use it often!
