Happy Friday, Illinois! With 2016 quickly coming to a close, I cannot help but reflect on this past year with pure gratitude for the amazing association members representing the state of Illinois. You truly are the heartbeat of GLACUHO, and I look forward to your (our) contributions during 2017. Our newly comprised board is already hard at work making sure that we continue the progress from 2016 into the new year. The board had our first monthly conference call earlier this week, and we are excited to say that our committees have been formed, and we are well on our way to completing the tasks outlined in our strategic plan. In this update, you will have the opportunity to begin focusing on our Contemporary Issue with the inclusion of a thought-provoking video from our Contemporary Issues Committee. Additionally, the Communications and Marketing Committee is accepting submissions for the next issue of Trends. If you're on a committee, I'd like to know, so we can make time to connect at the Winter Meeting. Please reply to illi...@glacuho.org with which committee and whether or not you will be in attendance at Winter Meeting. Have a safe and happy holiday season, and I look forward to our adventure together in the new year.
All the best, The Contemporary Issue for this year is Student Advocacy: Helping Support Students with Dissenting Behaviors. Throughout the year, there will be videos in the State Newsletters designed to acclimate the membership to the topic. This first video is by Steven Pinker who comments on taboos, political correctness, and dissent. The video is approximately 8 minutes long and is quite thought provoking. After watching the video, please feel free to participate in a discussion on Twitter @glacuho #dissentingbehaviors or on the GLACUHO Facebook page. This video does not necessarily represent the views of GLACUHO or the Contemporary Issues Committee or it's members. It is designed to promote thought and conversation surrounding the topic of dissent. The deadline for the next issue of Trends is quickly approaching. Please consider submitting an article. The guidelines are below:All members of GLACUHO institutions are encouraged to submit articles for publication. Be sure to indicate author’s name, institution, e-mail address and GLACUHO committee or Board affiliation, if applicable. Articles not received on time or not published will be considered for the next issue. Necessary editorial revisions will be made to ensure publication quality and to meet space requirements. Material that has been submitted to other publications is discouraged. Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy of references, quotations, tables, and figures submitted for publication. Authors further hold GLACUHO harmless from any liability resulting from publication of articles. Any editorial mention of commercial interests in intended entirely as an information service and should not be construed as an endorsement, actual or implied, by GLACUHO.
