How did you become involved in GLACUHO?  From the time I was an undergraduate student until now I always wanted to be a part of the GLACUHO organization. I was able to see how much joy the professionals on my campus got from being a part of GLACUHO. Therefore, when I received my first full time position as a residence director, one of my first priorities were to become a member of the GLACUHO organization. My first step toward that was presenting a program at the annual conference and applying to be a committee member.

What advice would you give someone looking to get involved in a professional organization? I would say to act on your instinct before you talk yourself out of it. There are so many benefits that come with getting involved in a professional organization and the only way to gain those benefits is to overcome the fear of rejection and just put yourself out there.

What has been your greatest professional learning opportunity? To be honest, I think everyday I do my work, I also gain a great learning opportunity. Whether I am attending a conference or in a meeting with a student, I am always learning more about myself and my craft. The beauty of working in this field is that being a life long learner is not only expected but actually required (if you want to be effective at your job).

What has been your greatest professional accomplishment in the past year? My greatest professional accomplishment this year was definitely securing my first full time position as a Residence Director at Northwestern University. I am so blessed to work at an institution that helps me foster all of the knowledge and skill set I gained while in school and couple it with the passion I have for working with students. When you are fortunate enough to work at an institution that is supportive and committed to giving students great experiences, it is really hard not to be happy with the work that you do.
