Dear friends of Glacial Lakes Conservancy,
Announcing GLC's Bella Terra Conservation Easement Lunch & Land Walk Celebration, July 28th
Join us! This lunch and naturalist-guided (or self-guided) land walk celebrates the donated Bella Terra Conservation Easement to Glacial Lakes Conservancy. It is GLC’s second project along the Pigeon River corridor in Sheboygan County. The first was the Mary V. Garton Bur Oak Conservation Easement.
This outdoor event is planned for Saturday, July 28th – weather permitting. The walk will feature the restored prairie areas of the property. The trails are mowed and easy to walk. For fun, a plant ID scorecard will be available. A prize will be awarded to the person who can identify the most prairie plants!
Donations to GLC to honor this project will be accepted and appreciated. New memberships are encouraged.
Registration is required by July 26th. Free to GLC members and a $5 donation is asked from non-members. Details will be provided at registration. To register your attendance or learn more, please contact our office by phone, or email with the subject "Bella Terra walk".
In other news ..... GLC is LEAPing ahead with a New Grant:
Glacial Lakes Conservancy is very pleased to announce a new mentoring grant award through the Land Trust Excellence & Advancement Program (LEAP). LEAP is a special three-year program created by a partnership with Gathering Waters Conservancy and the Land Trust Alliance Midwest Program. The goal of LEAP is to provide land trust staff and board members with the knowledge and organizational capacity that perpetual conservation demands.
This grant, from July 15, 2012 through February, 1, 2013, will focus on working with Executive Director Vickie Hall and the Conservancy’s board members to establish and implement Land Trust Standards and Practices for capacity.
In addition, back in April, Vickie also signed up for LEAP’s Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program to connect with other land trusts in Wisconsin and Michigan. This program features conference calls, in-person gatherings, and a field visit to another land trust.
Our deepest thanks to the many generous foundations, individuals and entities that have donated to support the Land Trust Excellence & Advancement Program, such as these: C.S. Mott Foundation, Carls Foundation, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Gaylord & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, Forest County Potawatomi Foundation, McKnight Foundation, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin Energy Foundation and others.
Happy Summer!
