Dear Conservancy Friends,
Here's today's Press Release:
Glacial Lakes Conservancy will host a lunch, award presentation and
guided land walk event to celebrate the completion of William and
Andrea Iwens’ land conservation easement project Saturday, June 18, at
the property in the Town of West Kewaunee in Kewaunee County.
The Iwens placed their 34-acres of Kewaunee River land into perpetual
conservation protection with the local land trust organization,
Glacial Lakes Conservancy in December 2010. Protection of the
property, which skirts a portion of the Ahnapee State Trail, also
expands the ecological protection of Wisconsin’s C.D. (Buzz) Besadny
Fish and Wildlife Area. This is Glacial Lakes’ first project in
Kewaunee County.
The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. William and Andrea Iwen
will receive a plaque during the luncheon. Vickie Hall, executive
director of Glacial Lakes Conservancy, will present information on the
Iwens’ private lands conservation project and how landowners can work
with Glacial Lakes Conservancy to voluntarily preserve the wildlife
habitat, working lands, woods, waters and scenic qualities of their
private property. It is the second of a series of landowner
celebration events hosted by Glacial Lakes Conservancy. The public is
invited to participate.
Noted local naturalist, Patrick Robinson, will lead a short guided
land walk of the property to highlight the important natural features.
Cost is $5 per person or FREE to land trust members.
For more information, or to register by June 15th, call Glacial Lakes
Conservancy at
920-273-1143. People can also mail contact information,
including name, address, telephone number and a check for $5 to
Glacial Lakes Conservancy, P.O. Box 258, Kohler, 53081.
“This will be an excellent opportunity for interested persons to hear
and see first-hand about the benefits of private landowner
conservation projects available in partnership with the local land
trust,” said Vickie Hall, executive director of Glacial Lakes
Conservancy.
A flyer is posted at the
glaciallakes.org home page. Registration
includes lunch and a beverage. Materials will also be provided.
