It's so exciting to be writing my first MOWII Monday as Regional Director to all of you. Many of us just saw each other yesterday for the NACURH Annual Conference, but we ran out of time during regional recognition for me to deliver closing remarks. I've put my remarks below to highlight and appreciate the 2016-2017 Regional Board of Directors.
The RBD also wanted to pass along an exciting opportunity! We have a vacant CO position that we're searching to fill. The Coordinating Officer for Recognition and Service (CORS) position needs one of you fantastic, dedicated individuals. The application is live today through Monday, June 19. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns! Find the position description, application timeline, and application below.
We're so excited for this year!
Peace, love, polar bears,
Cassie Govert

I would like to thank all of you for being at the NACURH Annual Conference this weekend. Your incoming Regional Board of Directors has been going through NACURH leadership trainings and transitions, and they always stress recognizing, remembering, and understanding your ‘why’ for doing your position.Being here, around all of you incredible Great Lakes people, re-affirmed my why this weekend. Thank you all for being so wonderful. It's also been so great to see the 2016-2017 Regional Board of Directors finish out their terms and to experience the great impact that they’ve had on you, this region, and NACURH.
This year’s RBD is the reason I’m writing you today. All of these eight people: Kathie, Tim, Pedro, Jessi, Kayla, Dan, Billy, and Abbas, have played a significant role in igniting student leadership in our region, as they’ve done for me and many others. They set the tone for what GLACURH is, and what we stand for.
When faced with a neutral host site, your 2016-2017 RBD worked tirelessly to ensure that a Regional Leadership Conference would happen, and that it would be a fantastic experience. When given the GLACURH strategic plan and tasked with implementing year one, your 2016-2017 RBD accomplished not only year one, but sections of year two as well. They took all of the challenges of their positions in stride and smiled through it all.
Your 2016-2017 RBD didn’t just check the boxes for each of their position’s responsibilities and say their job was done. They went above and beyond because they love GLACURH. They went above and beyond to reach people, not as a requirement, but out of care. They went above and beyond in showing our strides in NRHH inclusion. They went above and beyond to make changes at the NACURH level, and never shied away from speaking up for what’s in GLACURH’s best interest, even if it wasn't the most popular opinion in the room. They went above and beyond because they care about every single one of you. Thank you to the 2016-2017 RBD for all of your hard work and influence.
I can’t speak for the entire incoming board, but for me this is honestly the most simultaneously exciting, nerve-wracking, thrilling, anxiety-inducing, and special time of my collegiate career. Our board can’t wait to get started with you all, and we’ll work our hardest to go above and beyond, just like this year's RBD did. We’re going to keep advancing this region and working to advocate for you all at the NACURH level. And we are already passionate about so many ideas to bring to you all.
On behalf of your 2017-2018 board, thank you for entrusting us with GLACURH, and thank you for your never-ending spirit and positivity.
