I have run into, what I consider, a major bug in G.Knol Formatting,
sadly, and I will attempt to discuss the problem and my "work-around"
this problem. Perhaps Google will get around to fix this bug
eventually, but I will discuss it in detail here.

The problem: While writing, "Quar'anic Ambiguities Analyzed" (yet
unpublished) I needed a reference so I copied the relevant
passages( the first 5 paragraphs) from,http://atheism.about.com/
library/irf99/blirf_saudiarabia99.htm

Unfortunately, with it came all the advertisements in the "side Bars"
that I did not want. So I attempted to edit it and that is where I ran
into trouble.

(1) I tried to remove only the side bar material but could not
selectively select it.
(2) I selected the whole section but could not find the Delete button
on my Mouse right click.
(3) I used the keyboard "Delete" after selection, but found that along
with the new selected part, 3/4 of the rest of my article also
disappeared. Fortunately I used the Keyboard "UNDO" and managed to
recover that delete.
But that sacred me as I could easily have lost all or most of my
original text.
So I will first have to make another copy of my post, so far, to make
sure I do not lose hours of work.

Has anyone faced this problem before and what did you do about it.

I will discuss my work-around in subsequent posts to this thread.

Fearful of losing what I had done, I decided that my safest route
would be to move a copy to another site where I was more familiar with
the Word Processor. This way I had is second copy, and also I could
work on it with greater confidence. So I C&P'd my "Knol" to "Google
Docs." It transferred without a hitch.

On "Google Docs" by Right clicking on to the advertisements on the
Right hand Bar, I was able to "delete" item by item all the
superfluous advertisements that I did not want. I then saved the page.

I then Copied the edited page, went back to "Google Knol" and deleted
the corrupted "Knol" and "pasted" my Google Doc. edited article into
it. I have then continued to write on "Google Knol" as original.

That was how I "worked around" that bug. I was able to delete the
unwanted advertisement in "Google Docs" that I was not able to do on
"Google Knol."

Only if you have worked with Google Knols would you know what I am
talking about.
