April 12, 2017

  • Kubernetes v1.6.1 This version will be available for new clusters and opt-in master upgrades according to the following planned schedule:
    • 2017-04-12: us-east1-d asia-northeast1-c
    • 2017-04-13: europe-west1-c us-central1-b us-west1-a asia-east1-a asia-northeast1-a
    • 2017-04-14: us-central1-f europe-west1-b asia-east1-c us-east1-c us-west1-b asia-northeast1-b
    • 2017-04-17: us-central1-a us-central1-c europe-west1-d asia-east1-b us-east1-b
  • Kubernetes v1.5.6 is the default version for new clusters.
  • Container engine hosted masters will be upgraded to v1.5.6 according to the planned schedule mentioned above.

The following Kubernetes versions are available for new clusters:

  • 1.6.1
  • 1.5.6

The following Kubernetes versions are available for container cluster node upgrades/downgrades:

  • 1.6.1
  • 1.6.0
  • 1.5.6
  • 1.5.4
  • 1.4.9

The is a known issue with 2017-04-12 release:
  • `gcloud container clusters update --set-password` (or --generate-password), for setting or rotating your cluster admin password, does not work on clusters running Kubernetes version 1.5.x or earlier. Please use this method only on clusters running Kubernetes version 1.6.x or later.
