Hello, My name is David Edgar and have owned a GK24 Called Golden Kie previously knowned as Golden Delicous for the last 8 years. I would like to join the GK24 group. please be kind enough to send details of joining. Last week I ran aground off the Isle of Wight. The result of this encounter with terra firma was the blade of the rudder at the bottom of the Solent. Can anyone help me find a replacement rudder?
Kind regards, David Edgar

Hi David,
Welcome to the group.

I cannot point you to a replacement rudder but I am about to have my GK24 (Danger Mouse (ex-Ali Baba)) hauled out for its pre-season scrub up. While it's out I can take the measurements to make a replacement if that is any help.

You mention IOW therefore I assume you may not live not too far away. Danger Mouse lives in Poole if you want to check anything for yourself while the boat is out.

Hello David and Kevin,
I have handed Gym Kracker over to my wife’s nephew, Will.  I’ll point him towards this group.
My rudder also snapped at the waterline last summer.  Perhaps they’re reaching maximum service age.  This group helped to find a replacement, but we wondered if a solid slab of ply would do.  Heavy mind.
I believe Will is taking Gym Kracker to Poole.  I’ll tell him to look out for Danger Mouse.
Tom.

Hi all

My GK (Strider) is shore based for the foreseeable future in Lymington if that was any easier for you if you needed to inspect a rudder. Having removed it once myself I can confirm that the original is extremely heavy! I would guess at around 90kg.

Not wishing to hijack the original post, she’s potentially for sale if anyone was interested.

Yours

Peter

I’m in the same boat pardon the pun,my gk 24(warlock) lost her rudder a few years ago and I’m just waiting for good weather to start the renovation,Here’s some information on where to get the plans for a new rudder, he’s in Australia of all places. All you need is sail number and hull number I think,

Aren't the rudders used on other boats as well? Konsorts have transom hung rudders and I dimly recollect being told by a salty cruising man in a pub somewhere they were the same? Or maybe I dreamed it - odd dream if I did though!
